Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Hiya,
I am a 24 year old male who's partner is due early December. We decided probably last September we were going to start having children. Then from mid-October i have always had issues along the lines of throat irritation (feeling something stuck in throat), a funny taste in my mouth every so often, headaches (forehead pain so believe tension headache) and dizziness.
I went to my doctors when it first started and he put me on anti-depressants/anxiety but it did not seem to work and just made me more zombielike. I have definitely felt more lively since coming off these but i always seem to have 2 of these symptoms each day at least! Mainly headache and throat irritation. I have got a CT scan and gastro test booked in to check my acid levels etc.
I have done the dangerous thing of looking online at my symptoms and found some bad things but it just feels a coincidence that since we have decided to have children these symptoms have appeared! The last 23 years I have never had anything like this! Could this be anxiety in the back of my mind about being a parent?! Any help or advise would be appreiciated!

Lately I've been feeling scared and full of anxiety. I recently found a lump under my nipple. I hurt my back too. I'm in the process of moving. I'm run down. Everything is hard

Just wanted to give a thank you to Mid, Arfie, Malibumark, Greeneyes, Mlro, Girlincalif, and Suncloudjd! You all always have such helpful tips and advice, but I always forget to write on my posts when I see you post, lol. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my body, lol. Thank you all so much! I'm starting to use my AI app as a sounding board again. I used to use it as that before...

Doctor I ain't, but I know my own anxiety gives me similar symptoms. Breathing exercises are my front line remedy for the symptoms. I often need supplemental remedies for some of the sub-symptoms, like that throat irritation, but the breathing exercises are the remedy that keep me from passing out, etc.
Congrats on the new baby. Wonderful as those little bundles of joy are, they come with allot of baggage. Getting anxiety symptoms alongside the joys makes me think you just might make a good daddy. There is no greater gift than a good daddy to give a child.
Welcome aboard. Gentle support while you navigate the challenges ahead.
It could be allergies, or some type of sinus condition, or yes.... possibly anxiety, since like you said, it only started since you and your wife decided to be parents.
Well, it doesn't sound like anything serious to me. Glad you are having your doctors check you out. Good luck with the upcoming baby :)
Often, with anxiety, certain areas are far more sensitive to anxiety levels changing.
Focus on the in the moment. Best wishes!
Thank you for all your replies, I believe it must be sinus related or anxiety. As I have lived with my fiancé for 3 years and this has only happened now for the past year. Obviously as you are aware ever since we agreed to start a family together. I am hoping it is this "couvade syndrome" where the male partner feels some affects of partner pregnancy. It is liveable do not get me wrong as I cannot wait the little mini me to arrive!
I do work in a warehouse so have considered sinus issues due to dust etc. I have seen the doctor and have got Avamy (strong nasal spray) and I have to admit my headaches are easing, but am not telling my doctor as I was the CT scan to confirm anything (10th November) and my gastro examination (16th December). My son is due on the 2nd December so hopefully by my gastro exam he is here and my symptoms clear but want to get checked!
If it is anxiety it could be the normal expectant father reasons! Do I earn enough to support my new family? Am I going to be a good dad? Am I fit to be a new dad etc? But from reading your replies I am very grateful!
I hope to be able to give you more information once I have had my examinations and son!
You'll be a great father! Best wishes!
Was speaking with my fiance and we have thought that it could actually be withdrawal from escitalopram (lexapro) I would like some thoughts on this as I see withdrawal effects are headaches and mood swings etc. I have been off these for 2 months or so now and ever since I have had these problems basically I was only on lexapro for 9 months and on 10mg for 3 of those the rest I was on 5mg so a very low dosage. Personally would be surprised if it was still these affecting me but I know medication can take a long time to recover from! I cannot wait to hear your thoughts!
Kind regards
Matt
Just to inform you all i had my CT scan and wow there was a lot of nerves over nothing! I was a matter of minutes! I feel a lot calmer about my results etc of this now just for the fact of how quick it was. My headaches are still there but I do seem to feel better slowly (extremely slowly) but we are getting there! Fiance is now 37 weeks pregnant so my first son is due imminently and i cannot wait to meet him!
Kind Regards
Matt
