Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I wonder if anyone else has struggled with being assertive and confronting people while also living with anxiety.
Other areas that caused extreme anxiety seem like they took less time for me to overcome. All the thoughts and extreme anxious emotions attached to assertiveness and confrontation can really take a toll.
I've had an opportunity lately to practice assertiveness at my job, where me and my department are not particularly well liked because my department is tasked in part with investigating another department who fights us at every turn.
I was proud of myself for standing up to a difficult person in a meeting and defending myself and my department, but at a great cost. I didn't sleep that night when I got home and my anxious thoughts were in high gear and heavy rotation repeating over and over. I was also irritable for the remainder of the week. I knew this would happen, but I decided that it was worth it to weaken anxiety's grip in this particular situation.
I would love to hear from others who have been down this road and came out successful in the other side.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

What helps me is writing down what I want to say and imagining different responses I may get from the other person and preparing my answers.
I will try going back to that. Maybe it will help to get my responses on paper to ease my mind a bit.
The note trick helps my sis allot. Deep breathing and mantras help her build up her nerve for whatever needs to be said. I need duct tape and maybe lip staples on my side of the coin. Some days I carry a salt shaker so my foot tastes better when I stick it in my mouth.
Congratulations on the meeting. Gentle support you learn how to manage the aftershock well enough to let the precedent grow. I'm naturally assertive but the aftershocks of taking a stand can be rough.

If I am actively singing about peace, it's hard to be panicked and singing the songs over. I found a powerpoint online that I think you might find really helpful, if you put it into practice. It is REBT: Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, and it's about challenging the anxious thoughts we think and replacing them with something more realistic. It is thinking about what you think challenging the unhelpful thought and replacing it with something better.

I hope this helps
