Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. Underemployment, unemployment, temporary employment, all things a graduate student does not want to hear. But our economy is so grave that any job has to be looked at without hesitation. Meaning, you may have to take a job while you look for your dream job. That is reality now and always explore entrepreneurship. That is what I have done and will continue to do because to rely on jobs alone in our economy seems to be a one way ticket to hell. Why? You will find that your future employers are not the least concerned about your welfare, they are not the least concerned to fire and hire people at will. Is there not enough work they just fire people. They will also not hesitate to get rid of workers if there is a chance that the next worker will do the job for less.
While you are in a job you need to do the exact same thing than your future employers will do: look around for better opportunities, because no matter where you work your employers will always attempt to look at other employees too and will hire others while your job is on the chopping block without you even knowing. Very common, if I could not rely on my business I would not be able to live my life the way I wanted too, much more independence. Employers enjoy to know that the employees have to work at their company, even though they don't want to. And they think they are powerful if they know that the employees rely on them to actually survive. It is a sick perversion of the power game, and since my employers know that I do not rely on them for survival, that I do have leeway and that I do have freedom, they hate that and chastise me for that. They do not like it that I can do what they can not do. Shall I be too surprised that all of those power maniacs are males.
Networking is really the best way to get a job these days. Try going for an "informational interview" with someone who works in the field you are interested in. They can help you understand how things work on the inside and possibly even put you in touch with the people who matter. They might even be able to give you advice about getting more schooling, a graduate degree or certification that will help your chances.
Above all, don't lose hope and don't take the rejections personally. For all you know, 300 other people applied to the same job and 50 of those are people with direct experience. I know that might not make you feel any better, but you just need to remember you are not alone.
