Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Coping with Anxiety: 10 Simple Ways to Relieve Anxiety, Fear & Worry by Edmund Bourne, Ph.D. & Lorna Garano
I have both of those. The workbook is good. The other one is a book to read and it has been SUPER helpful. Its actually a good book for anyone to read to deal with life. Also if you're religious there are good books out there.
My question to you is this: Have they helped, and if you feel they have, why are you still facing hospitalization?
After reading and reading and searching for answers for many years, I find myself at times very resentful of all the time and energy I have put into this disease. I feel that I have done nothing more than "feed" it, and think of all the times I wish had been doing something OTHER then read the same things in different forms over and over again.
Experience is created by applying what you know. It's the difference between knowing how
an apple tastes and eating an apple.
Right now I have been trying to reading break up books with a recent break up.
My anxiety and depression have been severe for over a year and with a recent med change hospitalization is looking like an option because I seem to be getting worse right now and not better and am having serious suicidal thoughts.
I am attending a panic/anxiety group in the mean time while I wait for his group. And they are teaching us that we have to learn to manage it ourselves. Whether I will ever get there I don't know.
Right now all I can see is fear and spend most of my day trembling and paralyzed and wishing I could end this pain.
I thought the books might help some that are able to focus enough to read.
I think I was just trying to convey what happened to ME, as a kind of cautionary tale:
I have been suffering with anxiety, panic and agoraphobia for over 20 years. I have begun to come out of it a bit, and while packing boxes and boxes of books, ALL on anxiety, for a move, I realised just how much of my life this illness had consumed. I was hell bent on "curing" myself, and it just took over.
As I said to a friend here the other day, what we focus on is what we eventually get in this life, and in lieu of studying my stupid anxiety, I truly wish I had been focusing my attention on other things, and not allowed this to become as out of hand as it did for me.
About five years ago, I did start on a downward spiral and had to start taking medications and the symptoms were becoming worse. I would go through spells of being well and then unwell for awhile. But I always bounced back. I did start doing some self help reading. Mostly on obessions and panic.
It has only been in the last year and a half that it has completely consumed me and literally ruining my life. Something in my "snapped". My mother feels I had a "nervous breakdown".
I can't seem to stop what is happening. I have been an on-going patient with pdoc and hospital since.
I can certainly understand how you say about focusing on something else. It seems like such a waste of time but I just need to get back there, but right now seem to have forgotten how. I just feel completely lost, alone and scared all the time!
Cheers!
