Hello all!
I just stopped taking my benzodiazapine this weekend. I was only on like .5 miligrams so I wasn't worried about horrible withdrawals or anything. I found out something interesting though.
I was taking one pill before bed every night to help me sleep. By about 5:30 pm the next evening, I was feeling horribly anxious. I didn't understand what was going on, it was freaking me right out!! I found out, that my body was having withdrawals from just the one benzo I was taking a day!!! I went without them all weekend and I felt great. What a relief- but watch out for these drugs. They can help in a pinch, and they are great when you need them, but dependence actually hindered my recovery!!!

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I take 4 to 5 milligrams of xanax a day and sometimes I wake up without anxiety in the morning and sometimes I wake up with it. You have to be off your drug for longer than one night to go through withdrawal.
I'm glad that you can be ok without drugs though. That is really good for you.
I disagree about the withdrawals, benzo's in any format can be addicting and I can't find another way to explain why I feel so much better after I readjusted to being without them.
Agree to disagree I guess!!!
The important thing to remember (not trying to scare anyone here) is that if you are taking high doses, like multiple milligrams, never stop without talking to your doctor.
When you take doses as high as me and the poster above, you can have seizures and even go into a coma if you stop cold turkey. PLEASE don't take this the wrong way. I'm really not trying scare anyone, it is just important to be safe.
Yes, you do have to wean yourself off benzos, but you have to do that with ADs as well. I think any medicine that affects/alters the chemistry in your brain is going to require weaning rather than going cold turkey.
I do see a therapist, but have not been seeing her that long. The first one I saw in my Pdoc's office I didn't mesh with, so I decided to try someone different.
Everyone is different, and I mean no offense to any of the others who have posted. This is simply my opinion, and the way I am choosing to deal with my anxiety.
Good luck to us all!
