Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
As far as how I feel on Xanax in particular, it usually has a calming effect and may make me feel a little drowsy. Sometimes I do feel slightly foggy or disconnected, but not much, and it is sure better than having a full blown panic attack. I retain all my cognitive functions, so I don't know how people get "high" off it. If I took enough to get "high," I'd probably sleep through it.
I changed pharmacies a couple times and there can be differences between the generics. I also had this happen when I was taking Buspar back in the day. I didn't end up in the hospital like April3third, but I did notice a difference as far as effectiveness.
but here's the important thing about benzos- don't wait until you're in high anxiety to take them, they won't work that well. take them when you're starting to feel the strong anxiety coming on. eg.,i tend to feel more anxious in the evenings, after the sun has gone down. i used to wait to take my clonopin until i got anxious and it just doesn't work, or then took more and just got groggier. now, knowing i get anxious, i take it before the sun sets and avoid the high anxiety.
i don't feel high on them either. it just takes the edge off and i feel calmer and like McBri says, i retain all my cognitive functions.
Klonopin is a much softer benzo and typically preferred when starting SSRI's because its supposed to be easier to get off of due to the half life. Its effects last much much longer then adivan or Xanas.
What was the dose you took? If your anxiety is that acute I doubt anything under .5mg would be helpful. Plus normally Klonpin is more for just lowering anxiety over all instead of a quick fix to a big panic episode.
They also use it for starting up on SSRI's to help reduce the additional anxiety they cause (which is what I take it for right now.)
I honestly don't even really notice it much anymore. It doesn't really give the type of High that adivan or xanax does, but it will have a calming effect
