Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Personally, I think the afterlife will be a mixture of sleep, as needed, and being put to work, as needed by God, guiding souls over to the other side, being a guardian angel for our loved ones here on Earth, learning from higher spirits on the other side to attain higher levels of spiritual enlightenment than we could here.
Dy-ING scares the crap out of me, but actual death, crossing over into another dimension, doesn't bother me at all. And my dear, beloved brother has already made that trip into the great beyond, so I know he's there waiting to embrace me and welcome me to the bigger party.
It's an absence. It didn't upset you to not be born yet, and it won't upset you to be dead. You won't be there to be upset.
So what is upsetting you? Missing out on something someone else got? That won't bother you either. You'll be dead.
Worrying about how your children will survive without you? Make sure your will is in order. Make sure they know where that bundle of cash you stash hides, so that if you pop your clogs they can keep paying the rent till the insurance/will comes through.
Thing is, every thought is intrusive if you don't like it. How often have you ever sat there thinking about lying beside the beach, and then stopped and called it an intrusive thought?
Each thought is something deserving of attention. It deserves to be worked through. It is my private theory that thoughts not worked through, feelings not felt, are the absolute basis for anxiety and depression. And so if we have distracted ourselves our whole lives long to the point where we're a barking mess (talking about self here) then we need to stop distracting. We need to handle the backlog.
And that means take items one at a time, and think them all the way through to their natural conclusion. Once they have reached their natural conclusion they go away tidily, and don't come out again.
Such is the human brain. We want to analyse, we want to compartmentalise, we want to order our world. If we stop ourselves from doing that, our brain eventually poops the bed.
So let yourself think the bad thoughts, and let yourself feel the bad feelings, and eventually the ideas will come to rest at their natural point of conclusion, and so will your feelings. And then it's over.
