Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
Lets say, me, I am going on in my day to day life, I am having a good day, I'm bopping along no worries, no concerns, when suddenly, at the bus station I see an argument between a guy and his girlfriend. It's big, and loud and they are really going at it. I notice it, don't think much of it, get on a bus and half way to where ever I am going, I notice a strange pain in my chest. I worry about that pain in my chest. I worry about that pain in my chest, thinking its a precursor to a heart attack, I have a panic attack, worrying that I am having a heart attack. Its horrible, but I honestly believe, at that moment I was going to die.
The fact is, I saw an argument between two people that reminded me of a terrible situation with my family, some unresolved issues I dont take into take into account the argument I saw earlier, which reminded me, on some level, of my parents fighting before the divorce they had. Witch was a horrible situation for a 6 year old to go threw. What I see is I had a panic attack on the bus, and I was worries that I was having a heart attack.
I honestly believe that unconscious worries, or concerns can lead to panic attacks and anxiety if not delt with.
Something like worrying about bills, or where rent may come from will open someone to a panic attack, and those panic attacks can take the form of any number of things, like worrying that you might have a tumor in your head because you have headaches or thinking your husband no longer loves you because hes not home as much as he might have been in the past. These are symptoms of a panic attack, brought on by conscious or unconscious stimuli, that reflect personal issues you have not dealt with.
I dont believe that panic attack in of themselves are the problem. I believe they are a symptom of a reaction to stimuli that reminds you of problems or issues you are dealing with at the moment.
The physical symtoms are very scary but where not going to die from them as much as we feel like it at the time.
I think the fear of dying comes from the physical symptoms.
Maybe a therapist can help you talk through these issues with you and give you some coping skills, he will show you how to work your through these situations.
Also going through unrealistic thinking to realistic thinking is very helpful but you have to really work at it to get it to work for you.
I have heard that The Phobia And Anxiety Work Book By: Claire Weeks is very good, alot of people on DS have found it to be benaficial.
Good Luck To You!, i know how difficult all this is, your not alone!, write if you want to talk.
e4shannon,
The same thing happens to me ALL THE TIME, and sometimes I want to just lose it from the frustration of it all.
I did hypnotism recently and haven't had an attack since. As grateful as I am for that, I am still getting the physical symptoms that would act as a precursor to an attack.
I believe triggers are a HUGE part of it...there is always a reason, even if you are not consciously aware of it, for how you are feeling. The important part is finding that trigger and working through it.
yesterday i was working in a facillity (im a CNA), i had extreem anxiety all day, i was sweating,my heart pounding, my stomach was locked down and my feet and hands all tingly, i wanted to cry and could,nt look people in the eye.
I felt my confidence fall to the floor watching all the nurses use the equipment with ease, just buzzing around.
I was thinking to my self i could never work in a nursing home.
I work for an agency so im pretty much on my own which i like because i hate being observed or watched, it makes me feel more confident.
Im worrying and having so much anxiety im afraid it will get to the point i wont be able to work, which means a big loss of indipendance and self relience for myself, i dont want to give up, i want to be strong and not have people see me as weak.
At the end of this week ill be taking 6 weeks out to go on a new med and will be working intensly to better deal with my anxiety.
Im not being a good wife or mother, im just hiding from life because i cant deal with it.
I need to get myself back, be a good wife, mummy and not be scared of work.
Im frightened, it is going to take a long time to get the real me back.
Any advice welcome, i feel like im stuck.
