Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I recently graduated college and began looking for a better job than the current cashier job I have. I am a regular weed smoker but tried to cut down as much as possible in fear of a drug test. Since the usual routine is 1st interview, 2nd interview, job offer I figured with my height light weight and time I'd be able to clean out. I wasn't having much luck though and went to about 4 interviews with no calls back. For my 5th interview I was offered the job on the spot and had to take a drug test 4 days later.
After that I began stressing BAD. I became somewhat angry at myself for not being 100% clean and started to have an all around tense feeling in my chest for the 4 days. I drank tons of water, worked out, and obsessed over doing research. My friend recommended one of those cleanser drinks which I was skeptical about but tried anyway. The thing that stressed me out the most was they started training me before I got my results back. So I am currently working two jobs in fear that at any moment my boss will tell me to just go ahead and go home because the test is positive.
Thursday 7/11 was the day I was offered the job and was generally pretty anxious up until Wednesday when I just started feeling depressed, not even about the situation, just can't enjoy anything. I haven't been sleeping well, sleep maintenance insomnia, fast heart beat constantly upset stomach, no appetite, I feel like I am on the verge of a panic attack constantly. It comes in waves though, if I am kept busy in conversation I am usually mentally fine, still physically feel like crap but then I start worrying again, worrying that I am going insane, worrying that I will be stuck like this and never be able to enjoy anything again.
I don't care about this job anymore. If I stay at my current job then it's whatever. I still have an income so it's whatever, I'm just worried about my mental health.
I've had 4 episodes like this previously in my life. One in 1995, 1998, 2005, 2010. In between all those times I am fairly "normal" a bit anxious and I get down from time to time but not like this.
I bought some 5-htp and began taking it yesterday. If I don't feel better in a week I am going to go to the doctor.
Have any of you heard of a stressful situation triggering an anxiety/depressive episode even after the trigger problem is no longer an issue?
Sorry this is so long.

Do you think this could also be brought on by you stopping smoking weed? I know it used to calm me down a lot...but certain times it would make my paranoia act up so I smoke on and off but right after I stop I cant sleep, cant eat, and start to feel more depressed.

Nah, I've gone long periods of time without it many times before. I had a steady dealer that got arrested and couldn't find any for over a month, didn't feel any different.

I know that for me, anxiety can be produced in a healthy way. Instead of focusing on the symptom... The anxiety.... Look at the cause. Sometimes anxiety is there to teach you something. Like you said, you took a drug test when you weren't 100% sure that you were clean. That would make anyone freak out!!! Make sure you don't repeat things like that in the future... :) as far as managing the current anxiety, just try not to blow it up in your head. It's one event in your whole life. Like you said, if you don't get the job it's not the end of the world!! Do deep breathing, focus on your work..... The releif will probably come when you find out the answer.... Take care :)
