Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I am new to daily strength. I am a very depressed, lonely, disabled 51 year old female/married shut in. I am very lonely. I really have no one to talk to and am lonely a lot. (Please read my profile.)
My problems here are different. I also suffer from depression. But, I have had a few anxiety attacks.
The biggest cause of anxiety is having too much responsibility on your plate at one time and feeling overwhelmed. I was prescribed zanyx. But this anxiety medicine did not really help me.
I am Disabled now, but I went to College part time for years. I graduated with an A.A.S. Degree in General Business Administration in 2007. Six months later, I got sick and became disabled.
But, I had this problem in college. I was terrible in Math, but I did not know why. Semesters where I had no Math were great. But, if I had Algebra, it took me hours and hours to get my Math homework done or it took me twice as long to study for a Math test than students that were good at it. That was because I could never remember the rules from one day to the next.
I eventually got in work at your own pace math. But, if you were not finished with it at semesters end, you got an F. I finally found out, my last semester of college I was Dyslexic in Math, but no one ever caught it. I went to a psycho risks and took a Math aptitude test. The test results said in simple math, I had scored in the 9th percentile. But in the ability to computational large, abstract, mathematical computing I was unable to do it, because I only had the Math aptitude of a 12 year old girl. I was 43! So, I was 30 years behind in my Math! No one ever caught it!
I did fail Elementary Algebra the first time. Then I retool it and got a B. That was excellent, considering the fact my father died before I finished that course. Then, I took Intermediate Algebra and got a C. When I got to my last semester of collegre, and showed the school my test findings. They changed my curiculim and let me use colored paper and take Math For Liberal Arts. I got an 89 in Math For Liberal Arts, doing the whole course in six weeks.
So, the reason I told you all this? I had high anxiety when I had to take Math. I felt like I was going to fail the whole semester, on the first day of class. Because I knew it would take me twice as many hours as other people just to get the homework done and hours of study for a test. Plus, I knew the extra time in Math would make me much tiarder! Plus, I still had other classes to deal with.
I am not saying zanyx is not a good option, but even though I now take lots of medicine for health problems, I took the medicine only when nothing else helped me. I use medicine as a last resort.
The first cure for anxiety in college or work is to become very organized. Then, finding homework and things for school and work saves time. Eat right. I still struggle with this. I find I am much more relaxed and alert if I eat something for breakfast, even if it is not a large breakfast. When you do not eat right, you are sluggish, anxious and your thought processes slow down.
The second thing may sound far out, but I still believe to this day it is why I sueded and graduated. Spend 30 minutes a day with Jesus and always pray to him for your anxiety to improve and for help being sucessful. Study theword, pray, whatever you do is up to you. Just give that time to just you and your savior.
Take frequent study breaks. Your eyes need a rest for at least 10 minutes an hour. You also do not need to skip breaks at work. You need that time to relax and recharge.
Last, once a week, take at least 1 hour for yourself to enjoy a leisure activity. No matter how much time you think you do not have, make this time, not for your family and you, but just for your body and you to relax, enjoy and regroup. Then you feel better and able to feel like enjoying time with your family.
It is not really time we do not have. It is simply learning how to use our time wisely. The only way we can do this, is to regular destroys our body and mind. Even if we cannot devote much time to our body and mind, doing it regularly will help you feel a lot better. With this new habit, a lot of your anxiety and stress will go away.
I hope I have helped.
Hugs,
Tam
