General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...

I have terrible anxiety when I take a shower and I don't know why! ?
lusks1
Unfortunately I can't answer why but I can tell you that you are not alone. My daughter does as well. We haven't figured out a trigger other than feeling vulnerable because of being naked.

I too have had a panic attack set in while in the shower, why?

Well, I'm done showering and dressed ready to go to work. Lusks1, that is a great point. Everyone tells me I look fine, but I don't FEEL fine. I was on a diet last year and it worked very well. I lost the lbs but I couldn't afford it anymore and I'm bigger than I've ever been. So not feeling good in your own skin is a great valid point. Especially for teenagers. The hype and commercialism and peer pressure are (and always will be) brutal to a girl about being thin. Even too skinny is a problem for some. Another thing I think might be my problem is I have a huge family, 7 sisters n 1 brother, me being the youngest, we never had privacy and would sometimes mess w whomever was showering. My brother used to get a pitcher of cold water and dump it on us, but we did it back. Plus I am very OCD n have tremendous anxiety anyway. Thanks for your input! I ALWAYS FEEL better after getting cleaned up, so I don't offend other people. I've never gotten that far to not smell good, cuz I think everyone should take care of themselves, and at least try to look and be clean. Thanks again.

It could be the water; when it gets drained out, there is a little whirlpool-like swirl that forms. I used to be terrified of those because when I touched it, it stung me, and I was scared of getting sucked in (sounds pretty stupid, I know). It could possibly also be being scared of getting dry, wrinkly skin, or maybe the effect after you finish showering (where you feel really cold)

I too have anxiety with showering that has come into play in the last 2 years or so. I am married to a great man but unfortunately, I have gained 40+ pounds since getting married 7 years ago. I have some medical issues that caused the weight gain along with depression. Since I feel disgusting about myself and down all the time, showering has caused severe anxiety for myself. I hate being naked, I refuse to wear shorts. I want to keep covered all the time so no one can see what I look like. I avoid sex like the plague!!! I have lost all interest in sex and I'm on 36. It really sucks but I have no one to tell about this that wouldn't think I'm just screwed up in the head.

You are not screwed up at all. Most of us women have issues. Look at our society. Constant ads for weight loss, wrinkle creams, how to look younger . It is none stop. No wonder we feel inferior. And then we see all the gorgeous stars that are getting divorced! I think boy what happened there! If she can't keep a man how can I? Even after weight loss, there is sagging skin, stretch marks and all the aging stuff. You are not alone dear doglover14. I struggle with these issues every day. People will tell you to find someone who loves you for who you are. I did. He's my dog Cowboy!! Hugs and best wishes.
