Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
I know exactly what you mean. I had that type of anxiety right after I had my daughter. I was so used to staying home, that when it came time to go back to work...my anxiety just went all sorts of crazy!
Now I am just left with healthy anxiety. I am scared that my kids will get sick or that I am sick . Its crazy.
What I have been doing is Praying. That helps a whole bunch. It soothes me. I also make it a priority to give myself atleast 30 minutes of me time. I sit there, play on the internet and drink some tea. Or read a book and drink tea. Because you HAVE to give yourself that!
I also have been trying to go to bed earlier. Which I have noticed has been helping a bunch.
What I also did was I started taking MINI trips to the store...I had a thing for stores. I would feel like I was dying inside a walmart! AUGH!
Anywhoo...It will get better. If you need someone to talk to...I am here
Someone once said that fears are educated into us, and can be, if we wish, educated out of us. When you feel ready to do so, try making small trips out, for example, to run an errand or to walk around the block for exercise. If you do this consistently, you will over time overcome your fears and anxieties.
It's important to know that what you are experiencing (agoraphobia or generalized fear and anxiety) is a normal reaction to things that may have occurred in your life. For example, if you've spent a lot of time at home due to an injury or illness or caring for a young child, and then need to change your routine and get out more, you will naturally experience some fear and anxiety initially - it's part of the way we're made. Also, if you have experienced a traumatic event, that event can trigger your fears and anxieties.
Having a companion like a friend or neighbor to go with you when you are out and about might be helpful. Many people keep small dogs with them for just this reason - a furry friend can relieve some of the stress caused by the external world.
I don't have agoraphobia like I used to. The fear I deal with today is that of going to a place for the first time - will I get lost, will I arrive on time, etc. So, what I try to do is make an advance trip to the place to find it and to make an estimate of how much travel time I'll need to have for when I am expected to be at a certain place. I even go so far as downloading maps off the internet and planning out a route.
Remember, you are capable of anything, just be persistent and patient and be good to yourself.
