Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. or this wiorks even better: tense up your toes for five seconds then relax themm for five seconds, then do your foot, and work it all the way up your body. 4. Calm yourself with positive self talk. EX: Itoday is no different then yesterday. I waas ok yesterday. Everyday is better and better. I have the tools. I will do my best for my body and miond.5. Distract yourself, do a puzzle -sudoko or whatever, play cards, anything that works your mind. 7. If you have nervous energy, use it, clean, walk, exercise. 8. Don't let this moment ruin your day. Know that it will pass. It is just a moment.9, Do something you want to do. Do something you have to do. 10. Journal-list atleast five positive things that happen to you the day before-(ten if you want) do this everyday. 11. Take time for prayer-pray for family, friends and strength , Ask God to guide your thoughts, feelings and actions and to let everyone see Jesus in you. 12. Thoughts are Powerful. So change those thoughts. Challenge your thoughts. Example: You wake up in the morning and get out of bed. You got up to fast and feel dizzy. Tell yourself, oh I feel dizzy because I got up to fast. I am ok. Instead of (which we tenf to fo....Oh No, I feel dizzy. Its already started. I am scared. See, now you started the anxietyu cycle. Just by these thoughts. 13. Don't listen, evaluate, dwell on every thought. WWe have thousands of thoughts. Not all of them are true, some are silly, some are scary, negative and so one. Its just a thought let it go out of your mind as fast as it enterred. 14. AN ANXIOUS MIND CANNOT EXIST IN A RELAXED BODY. Remember this. (Do those relaxing exercises: tense and relax. Use imagery also. I imagine that I am a big massive oak tree . Mt body is the trunk and my feet are the roots. My roots go deep and wide into the earth for miles and miles. I feel strong, crowded and can with stand anything that comes my way.15. Change your environment. 16. Speak to yourself as you would a friend. If a freind was feeling anxiety, what would you say. You wouldn't say oh your gonna have another episode, or your weak, get over it, don't you wish you were stronger. So don't say these things to yourself. Use affirmations. Here are some that I use.I handle stress and tension approriately and effectively. My mood is calm and relaxed. I cab cope well and get on with my life during times of stress. I think thoughts that uplift and nurture me. I enjoy thinking positive thoughts that make me feel good about myself and my life. I deserve to feel good right now. I feel grounded and totally present. I want to say that no matter how silly any of that sounds, it is VERY VERY good advice and those little mental exersizes REALLY REALLY help.
Drugs help some people, but the key word there is "help". No drug will cure your anxiety. You will ultimately have to utilize mental and emotional tools. You will have to find your own way to your own cure and the advice above gives you some great ways of dealing.
Now, my opinion on the physical side of anxiety. It feels physical, but it is still based on your brain. It's still the same mysterious anxiety problem. Do not look for something to stop the physical pain. Deal with the mental pain and you will solve the physical pain along with it. If you search for a cure to stop the physical symptoms, you will hate yourself later for wasting so much time you could have been helping yourself.
I can save you years of flailing around unhappily. Remember this: This disorder comes from your brain and it can only be fixed by your brain.
I so relate to what you are dealing with. I have been dealing with these anxiety/panic attacks, physical symptoms for almost 9 months and it too has been freaking me out.
I have been to ER about 4 or 5 times, several doctors, several test done and over $12K in medical bills all because of these attacks. I have tried therapy, reading the bible, surrounding myself around positive people and now the lastest thing I have been having I guess GERD, but I am afraid to go to the doctor to check it out. Just know you are not alone.
When all of this started I went and got a book called, Panic to Power, by Lucinda Bassett...EUREKA!!! I said this woman knows me so well. Check out stresscenter.com.
Rolly it will get better with time, but when these physical symptoms happen I revert back to those negative thoughts. How have you been dealing with your symptoms? Do you take hot baths? Listen to relaxation tapes? etc?
