Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
We as humans are wired to be cautious of new things....blame your cavemen ancestors for that. Knowing that every single human is wired this way....I suppose you are not alone with these types of feelings...right? Now what to do with this fear that you are experiencing. Well....I think for starters telling yourself that it's OK to be scared....it's something new after all...right? Then tell yourself...hey I can be scared and do it anyway...once I do this thing that scares me I can then make the judgement in my brain if there was any danger or not (which I believe the danger level on this new experience to be none at best...right?)
AnxiousGal is right...this type of thought makes us stop in our tracks instead of finding out for our selves if the situation is dangerous or not. Every time we face these habitual fears we strengthen our brains to realize that it is fear that we are actually afraid of and the sensations that this fear causes us......not the event itself.
Change the current thought from fear to curiosity.....hey what will my new employer be like? What new things will I learn? What will I learn about myself from this experience?
In my experience....ALL the things that I worried about before I gave them a try we're never as bad as I imagined them to be. Reality is never as scary as our minds make them out to be. That is anxiety in a nutshell really.
All you have to do is play the queen. Be happy, be pleased with them, like them. That's all they want.
Remember that they are nervous too. They are scared too. Remember to be kind to them, too. :)
I find it helps with anxiety to not think about myself, or my needs, but to think about the others around me and their needs. Kindness is often a good antidote to fear.
Other than that I wonder if anxiety creates the locked in, inflexible, terrified rigidity of life that we can often end up with, or if living an inflexible, rigid life gives us anxiety. I actually think it's the latter.
Imecklen ...I know exactly how you feel..I too am learning to look at my "issue" ( whatever it is for the moment ) at all different angles now..not be so one minded and always thinking the worst. It's hard cause I've been like this my entire life but I am doing it at my own pace....everyday is a struggle but I promised myself that I would slow down and not just look at the roses but smell them , touch them etc..I wish you the best in your new endeavor and I am impressed that you were able to make such a positive move!!!Good Luck and keep us posted!
