Anxiety Support Group
Anxiety is a physical condition marked by intense and persistent feelings of distress, fear, angst or dread. General anxiety caused by routine day-to-day stresses usually passes quickly and is experienced by almost everyone at one time or another. However, such feelings that linger over time and are very difficult to cope with, and which lack a clear cause, may indicate...
They might disappear on their own a few more months down the road.
You could make a list of all the times you have successfully driven WITH these intrusive thoughts on a piece of paper. If you don't remember, then start a list. When you have the intrusive thoughts, either think of the list, or if you need to, pull over and read the list.
You could also try shifting your focus and distracting yourself from the thought by focusing on the feel of your steering wheel for example or counting.
The latter part has not fully come out. Nor does it particularly need to. In my gestimation these intrusive thoughts will gradually go away. But things will be better if you admit to yourself that you had a few seconds of danger. Yikes!!
That would have scared the bedickens out of me. Although I have been in a couple accidents where I went all over the place, there were none where I spun completely end for end.
/ You are lucky to be walking around.
There are worse trauma, but I consider this one to be not a light-weight stress thing. ... Maybe you can avoid driving under bad conditions for the rest of the winter? (For example a doctor's note...U could leave one someplace at work, then if you ever perchance had to call you c'd refer your supervisor right then to that note.)
/ If I were a dr I wouldn't want you driving in a tough situation. Not until you have healed up some.
I'm very poor; for many that means a stressful life. At times I pushed myself too far. Then started coming apart and went to the hospital. Believe me, pushing yourself is sometimes not worth it.
After reading WantToFight's post for the second time, I realize it is really good. . ) . :) . . . I agree with it.
. Caleb . :)
I will for sure make a list of times that I've successfully driven. And I try to shift my focus with music and singing since thatt's something that usually calms me down. It helps a bit for after the thoughts come in, but it's not stopping the thoughts. I know I'm lucky to be walking and that there wasn't even damage to my car. I'm thankful. I really do hope that these thoughts stop soon. I wish I could skip driving for the winter but I live in Chicago and work at a walmart. I can't escape the weather or skip work. And I did have anxiety, panic attacks, and possibly PTSD from something unrelated, and traits of OCD, so maybe you're right wanttofight, and the situation just worsened it. Thank you for your support guys :)
I meant to say . . driving anytime this winter. Thus planning -> the bus.
/ If so-so streets are predicted for the next shift, then...
(I assume you are so far from work that a cab is not thinkable.)
i hope you can forgive me for my teensy keyboard here
. Caleb
P.S. Oh and yes. I too have that intrusive thought often enough. Especially if I've had stress building up for months. I just disregard it - being afraid that pain would be involved. Nah, I'll think about something else. . lol
Be good to yourself
