Uggg here we go again.Day 3 dizzy, nauseous, vomiting.Now since yesterday says she is sick.I talked to her last night and she begged me to not make her go back to school tomorrow.I am at my wits end.This has been going on since kindergarten, she is now in 6th grade.I have been considering home school for a couple years now,her doctors and therapist advise against it.I can understand their thinking,they don't want her to isolate herself and become agoraphobic but I think she is already there. Last year she missed 43 days and when she is there she is constantly at the nurse so what is she really getting out of school? She is very social, has lots of friends and is extremely outgoing so I am not really worried that she will isolate herself.I just don't know what to do.I do know this is not working,she is getting more behind every day.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I hate to push the meds myself, but has she started on anything? It is a tough decision, and I hated to put my daughter on anything, but it has really helped her. She is on a low dose, but it is just enough to help with her major anxiety.

She is already on 20mg of Fluoxetine but the school refusal anxiety has been going on since kindergarten.She loves/hates school.I should be use to this by now but how can you ever get used to your child begging"Please mommy don't make me go" Its heartwrenching!!!

Just seen your post and I know how you feel, my daughter has just turned 13 and has been going through the love/hate school since the age of 5, everybody said she would grow out of it, called it normal separation anxiety but no, we have been back at school now for three and a half weeks and it's just starting again. I don't have the option of home schooling as we are a British family living in the US for three years (added anxiety). Just remember you're the best Mum ever for caring so much. X

Thank you all for your comments, some people just don't understand and say "you have to be firm and make her go". How can you possibly ignore the "please mommy don't make me go" as if you are sending her into a lions den? We moms are not wired like that. Does the school think I want her home? I haven't been able to work in 5 years because of this, 43 missed days of school last year,how would an employer like me calling out sick that many days?Very frustrating.

I'm so truly sorry. And I totally relate, my daughter has had years where she's been the same way. If I can get her to go she just comes home early later. And you're right, there's no way you could work!! Is there any chance at all that a med change or increase may work? We've been through several increases already w our 12 year old daughter and each has brought tremendous relief. Thinking of you. ~Christy

Have you done a MRI and EEG on her?
Please rule out any medical condition first.
My son had anxiety - hence why I was on this site and we did a MRI and they picked up Chiara which was causing the anxiety but giving meds does not work as his brain is fine - no chemical imbalance
In fact the meds were making him more anxious, aggressive and then also wanted to isolate himself.

I have a boy who never wants to leave my side. His separation anxiety was terrible. He also has other issues. We have found a way to help him cope with his anxiety. its not 100% cured but its manageable. Please see the link below and my little man explains what he did to help him go to school and leave my side. He was a sever case of anxiety and its amazing how if you can just figure out something creative and out of the box then it might help. Is she on an IEP? with her record of missing school and medical diagnosis, she should qualify under OHI (other health impairments) and get services through the school district. One of the options the team can consider is a shortened school day (morning only or afternoon only). If she is involved in activities outside of school and gets together with friends outside of school, there is also the possibility of online classes through the district as well.
