hello all,i am new to this group, and yes i save bettas alot i have over 16 of them.when i go into fish stores i see them in the cups and they look so sad and i have to buy them.i have 7 fish tanks and there will be more to come:)

I am new. And yes I have rescued many pets over my 50 some years. My very favorite story is the one about my current pet Ty. Ty was a racing greyhound at a race track in Pennsicola Fl. I lived in a town in Mandeville La. One Sunday morning there was an article in our local paper titled "Our Foour Legged Friends Need Us". And of course because I haven't met a dog I didn't Love I told my husband get dressed we're going! Hurricane Ivan had destroyed the track and a group of rescue people found that 50 dogs had been left. There was no power and the rescue workers could hear the dogs panting in the hot Fl. heat when they arrived. They brought the dogs in a caravan to a shelter. My husband and I went there and Ty whose race name was Tides Rolling wagged his tail every time we came to see him. His coat was awful, his teeth were full of plaque and he had diarrhea. It was love at first sight. That was 7yrs. ago. We taught him how to climb stairs, not be afraid of the T,V. and enjoy toys. He had never been inside a house! Today he is 9yrs. old and is my soulmate and best friend. It wasn't easy and it didn't happen overnight. It took work from him and me. But I am forever grateful to have this beautiful animal a part of my life.

When my lab, Lucy, died of old age, my husband dragged me from shelter to shelter looking for a new dog. That's when we found Boomer. He was on "death row" at a kill shelter. His name, then, was Cody. When the shelter worker saw us looking at Cody, she came up to us and said she could SPIN him (Special Pets In Need) and give us a discount if we wanted him. Turned out that this dog had been in shelters from his puppyhood, he was 9 months old when we saw him and he had been adopted 5 times and always returned for various reasons (i.e. "got too big" "too rough with the kids" "my wife doesn't like him" "not trained"). I told my husband that this poor dog is like a boomerang, every time he gets out the shelter, he comes right back! That's how he got his name, Boomer is short for Boomerang. We adopted him. He is still with us, he is now 9 years old and the smartest darn dog I ever had. And he is big: part German Shepherd and part Great Dane (as far as anyone can tell). He's a great dog, just needed someone to love him....

I have rescued many critters. But, it stuck mainly with rats and then my ferrets. I take in a lot of biters. The ferrets were kept in cages and not left out for play time. Here, after they realize no more cages, they become very loveable.

When I had the rats, they were also extremely loveable. BUT their life span is soooo short I was a big cry baby every time one passed. Rats are very prone to cancer. And I would estimate 90 percent had passed from cancer. One had lived 6 months with lung cancer equivalent to 10 years human. I was giving him retinoic acid and it went into remission. Also, it is known to cure emphysema in rats, but for some reason they have yet to try it on people..

You are an excellent pet lover. It's easy to love the acceptable "cute" ones but the rest get ignored. I had a rat named Junior. I was in high school and my sister brought him home one summer from college. She was a pschology major. Of course Junior and I hit it off. He was a clown and we had a wonderful relationship. When he passed I cried forever. It was a life lesson that all god's creatures are deserving of our love. Love Whya

Oh, I had loved my ratties. Had Siamese, rex, hairless, hooded, berkshires, irish, agouti, etc. Had a little siamese who LOVED to clean teeth. ( I KNOW GROSS, GROSS), But she would pry your lips open and clean your teeth with hers. LOL.............And the little kisses they'd give and hugs. But their lifespan just to short. Ferrets are suppose to live around 7 years. Mine are living to 13+ yrs. I contribute it to the free roam and their oatmeal or eggs every am.

i had another little lady that i rescued (a baby magpie) she was sitting in the middle if a busy road so of coarse i picked her up and took her home,i fed her for about a month then wanted to teach her to catch her own food and she was doing good,so i took her to my nannas house,she has a big area enclosed that she keeps all her plants in so i put her in there and she started to scratch like a chook and found bugs,i was very happy to see that,so the next day i when back to see how she was and she got out!!!!!!!!!!! she was gone, so goodbye my little friend i hope you are happy and healthy,and i hope she has found a boyfriend!! LOL :)

I would have to say, my dogs rescued me! Our Bella was a stray dog and entered our lives at a time when I didn't think I was ready. We agreed to care for her, clean her up, and try to find her a new home. Three months later, she'd won our hearts and changed our lives. We've now had her for almost 6 years - she is a senior girl and I love her with all my heart. Our Jack is a happy go lucky spunky dog who warms my heart just to llok at him, we rescued him from the SPCA - he's a purebred, and I almost rejected him because of it, but with his wiggly butt and happy smile, he won us over. We are going on almost three years with him, and I could not imagine life without either of them!
