Please be extremely careful in the use of OTC pain relievers for any pet. There are several products that when given to an animal, will cause crystals in the kidneys, which can lead to a very painful death for the animal.
NEVER give an animal any of the tylenol type products. You would seek the advice of a doctor before giving anything to you child...the same should be true for you pet. (Many Rx pain relievers contain tylenol...like Loritab.)
There are times when we simply do not have the money for a Vet visit...Asprin, (Baby Strength), is anti-inflamatory, and is a safe pain reliever, provided your pet can tolerate it. You can also use Benedryl for minor respitory and allergy problems. I keep both on hand all of the time...and I keep the liquid types..for children under twelve.
I am in no way offering vet advice...This info is from personal experience I learned from working in a Pet Hospital, and from doing pet rescues.
Emergency funding is usually available through your local Humane Society, SPCA, and other pet agencies for emergency treatment...keep those numbers handy. Also, remember to keep your pet's rabies and other vacinations current. Usually, the Humane Society holds a clinic once a year for a low cost. Check with your local agency for dates. And make sure your new puppy gets his/her puppy shots! And please, have your pet tested for heartworms and on a preventive pill/chewy monthly...year round. There is also an injection available through your vet called ProHeart, which is good for up to 6 months. This is the plan I use. (To treat your pet for the heartworms, is not only very expensive, it is extremely dangerous..no guarantees, as it an arsinic based IV.)

Thank You...I have seen what happens to pets with heartworms, parvo, distemper, and OTC meds. All these can be prevented. Education and a little money is all you need.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus).
