Anger Management Support Group
Anger management commonly refers to therapeutic techniques by which someone with excessive or uncontrollable anger can control or reduce their emotions. Typical examples include the use of deep breathing and meditation as a means to relaxation. Psychologists recommend a balanced approach, which both controls the emotion and allows it to express itself in a healthy way.

My partner has a hell of temper when he gets mad at me, he will get so worked up that he has broken doors, my mobile, lights, grabbed me (but not hit) leaving bruises.
Generally he is a nice person, but can't seem to control his anger.
How can I help him?

He would have to do it himself. I'm here for the same reason - but from the other side. He needs to realise that he's hurting you in order to seek help. Maybe you need to talk to him. However - do this only when he's not tempered. Best moment to confrontate him is when he's just cooled down.

What worked for me was understanding that I cannot help him he needs to help himself. I began reading in my case articles on overcoming verbal abuse. He is a wonderful husband amazing really but when he gets mad he doesn't think what he says. I didn't even realize the actual name for it was verbal abuse it took me about a week or 2 of researching and finding the right time to let him know what he was doing to me and our relationship. I found a time when he was truly feeling cooperative in trying to help himself calm down and I showed him an article on verbal abuse and told him this is what you do to me and this is how you make me feel I know it sounds harsh verbal abuse but this is what it is read it. And he did read it and when he came back into the room he said he didn't realize how bad it was until he saw it third person. Since then he's really been proactive about getting better. There are so many resources out there but he needs to want to change

Leave him. Those who strike out violently, rarely change. They often escalate. He is acting dangerously, & has hurt you. You will have to endure more violence and harm to your peace of mind, emotional and physical well-being, if you choose to be in a relationship with him. Tell him this behavior is totally unacceptable to you. Tell him that in order for you to avoid it you, will be forced to leave him, if he does not change the way he expresses anger/frustration and completely stop these violent dangerous unacceptable inappropriate behaviors immediately and completely, no exceptions, no excuses, no second chances...then follow through. He can choose to change get help with it or whatever, but you, I hope for the sake of the quality of your life, self esteem and happiness take care of yourself. Set and keep your own good healthy happy boundaries. You will be fine, in your own good care. G-D Bless.

I agree with bumblee2 100%. You say he doesn't hit, but if he grabs you and leaves bruises on you it's still physical abuse. And it will definitely escalate; always does. Ask me or anyone else who's been there. Maybe if you leave it will be enough to make him really want to change, and then you may choose to go back. But I think you should leave, if only temporarily. He might even seriously hurt you by accident, if he's breaking things.
