Anger Management Support Group
Anger management commonly refers to therapeutic techniques by which someone with excessive or uncontrollable anger can control or reduce their emotions. Typical examples include the use of deep breathing and meditation as a means to relaxation. Psychologists recommend a balanced approach, which both controls the emotion and allows it to express itself in a healthy way.
Do you see what an egomanical self-centered thought process that represents?
I don't say that to upset you, but just to bring it to your attention. Like it or not, its not all about you, and the sooner you can see things in their true perspective, the sooner you can get a good grip on what your role is in the whole process.
Now... with that said... I do understand that horrible feeling that you have no control over your destiny. Its a frustrating feeling to feel subject to outside influences that you can not dominate. I get it. But, your FEELING like you have no control is not based in reality. While you may legitimately have NO control over whether jobs get cut or classes get cut, or any other outside decision making... YOU DO have the option to control how you respond to these variables in your life.
When you lose a job, it sucks. I know. But you can CHOOSE to feel like a victim of circumstance, and let the fear of being vulnerable give rise to anger... OR you can see it as an unchosen opportunity to go in a new direction that you may have missed if you had stayed in your comfortzone in your old job. Some of the most exciting and best opportunities in my life have come following an unexpected change of plans. An example... taking a wrong turn in a strange town... could have really really pissed me off... and some days would have had me raging into a place to ask what the hell was wrong with that town and its stupid unmarked routes... OR... seeing the journey as the adventure... I walk into a restaurant with my map to have a cup of coffee and a muffin and retrace my steps... and meet a wonderful couple who get to chatting with me, tell me exactly how to get to where I went astray, but only after they tell us about this great little place down the road that we don't want to miss... where we go for a fabulous hike together and explore a beautiful nook of nature that we would never have known existed. Now... passing through that region.. I'll go out of my way to revisit that little off the beaten path spot, catch up with the friends that we made that day... and my life has been enriched beyond measure... all initiated by a situation that on another day would have had me RAGING! SO... what is in my control? NOT the stresses that come, inevitably... but the shape my life takes due to the attitude that I adopt in dealing with those stressors.
Life can be an adventure... but only when we realize that its really not all about the one in the mirror.
Meditating on my true smallness... this opened up a huge space in my life for joy. All that space that used to be filled by self-righteous ego.... We all need to get over ourselves once in a while.
kind of like asking a clerk in a store what you should buy, they check their inventory and sell you whatever needs to be sold because no one else wanted that item.
just be careful and watch out for yourself.
good luck.
