Anemia (or anaemia), which literally means "without blood," is a deficiency of red blood cells and/or hemoglobin. This results in a reduced ability of blood to transfer oxygen to the tissues, and this causes hypoxia; since all human cells depend on oxygen for survival, varying degrees of anemia can have a wide range of clinical consequences.

Ferretin Roller Coaster - help

I am severe anemic, and I can not seem to store iron any longer. I am 6 years post op for a gastric by pass (full roux -en Y) I have had multiple iron infusions, but three weeks after the iv infusion, my ferretin drops to single digits. My doctors here seem stumped as to why I can t keep the iron ??

Help.. anyone else have this issue ?

I don't really have an answer but isn't anemia a possibility with that sort of operation? Have they checked for any bleeding? Anemia can be a puzzling thing, I have been anemic for going on seven years now, without pinpointing a real cause. It certainly can get depressing at times. I 've been through so many tests and procedures, I don't anticipate allowing any more. Fortunately, I have become stable (not normal) but feeling okay so I guess I' ll always need monitoring. Well, I hope they can fix you so that you can feel better very soon.

I have gave bleeding in the stomach my hemo globin has ran 8.5 getting. Iron every 2 weeks the doc feels I can feel better if I get that number up so going every week now. My wife was anemic was having heavy periods got megace to end periods and that fixed that.

I had gastric bypass in 2002. I weighed 315 lbs and lost 182 lbs in the first year. My lowest weight was 133 lbs/size 12. Then I went back up to 158 lbs and pretty much maintained that for 8 years. Then I had a personal issues and got back up to 200 lbs. Then in 2013, I started losing weight again at a healthy rate. But in the last 18 mos, I keep losing weight. I may have had gastric bypass.... but I LOVE to eat and I'm a FOODIE! I started Iron IV's in mid May. 4 hour drips once a week. But about 3 weeks into my treatment, I lost my taste buds!! And I've lost 20lbs in just 3 months. NOT GOOD! I'm 5' 7" tall and as of 4 days ago, only weigh 97 lbs!!! Now my weight loss is causing my blood pressure to drop. I love to eat and cook!!! But NOTHING tastes good.... UGH!
