Androgenic Alopecia Support Group

Androgenic alopecia (also known as androgenetic alopecia or alopecia androgenetica) is a common form of hair loss in both men and women. The pattern of hair loss in women differs from male-pattern baldness. In women, the hair becomes thinner all over the head, and the hairline does not recede. Androgenetic alopecia in women rarely leads to total baldness.

Hi all,

I am feeling very lost and in need of support and people who understand what i'm going through. I have been struggling with hair thinning the last year and a half(since covid hit). I just last week was diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia, after a long year of not knowing what the heck was wrong with me. Part of me is relieved, that I finally had a doctor tell me what is wrong and now I know it wasn't all just in my head. But the other part of me is so sad and depressed. My hair is all I think about. I'm constantly researching tips and tricks and products and it is consuming me. I hate how I look and dread looking in the mirror. I am only in the beginning stages of this and I don't know how I am going to get through it.

I'm sure many of you were in my spot and felt lost too, so I appreciate any insight or encouragement. Thanks!

Hi there. I understand what you are going through and how it is consuming you. I am also in your situation. I have not been diagnosed but it is very obvious to myself and my family how my hair has drastically changed in the last year. My hair has thinned out so much I have areas that look like tiny bald spots. I have read articles on this subject regarding tips and different techniques. I am taking supplements,specialized shampoos and nightly hair regimens to help this situation. I have not cut or dyed my hair due to my feeling it would make it look far more obvious than it already does. My hair has always been a part of my identity and that is why it is so overwhelming and saddening for me. It makes me feel unattractive and I am embarrassed when I go out, feeling inside as if I am not like everyone else who has the normal head full of hair. I wish to give you some encouraging words, as of now I am in the same situation. I hope it will get better for myself and you but I just wanted to let you know your not the only one and I feel for you.

I’m going through this too. Recently diagnosed with androgenic alopecia. Prescribed minoxidil and spironolactone but afraid to take them because of side effects. Feeling lost….tried supplements, shampoo,etc. Nothing worked. Just want to talk with other people who understand.

Same for me too! I am dreading going back to the office and mixing with people. Feel like family and friends do not get it and expect me just to snap out of it and accept it

I also have AA. Most people are unable to comprehend the emotional, mental and physical toll this takes on someone. I have cried so many tears, tried so many "treatments" and it has slowly destroyed my self confidence. It's not something I want to share with anyone, but going through this alone makes it so much worse.

I'm still trying to accept this as reality and figure out exactly how I am going to go forward in my new "normal".

I truly understand. what each of you are going through and I hope knowing that we are not alone can help all of us, even just a little. ♥
