Amyloidosis Support Group
Primary amyloidosis occurs when the body's antibody-producing cells do not function properly and produce abnormal protein fibers made of antibody fragments. Some people with primary amyloidosis have a condition called multiple myeloma. The antibody fragments come together to form amyloid deposits in different organs, including the kidneys, where they cause serious damage.
My Grandma died from amyloidosis. The doctors told my parents that it was hereditary. What does that mean for my sister and I? Does anyone know?

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? My father seems to have this, which will mean a 50% chance of me getting it. Except I already have an inflammatory disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, so probably a much higher chance.
My uncle has it and so there is a 50% chance my mother has it and a 25% chance of me having it. We are waiting on genetic testing to be done soon.
As far as I know, my grandmother never had it and my estranged grandfather died of cancer in his 70's or around 80 or so. But he have may passed the gene onto his offspring. One of them did. And my uncle didn't know until he started to have symptoms and was diagnosed conclusively for Familial Amyloidosis.
