5 months ago i was in a motorcycle accident leaving my right leg disabled. A woman made an illegal uturn in front of me, resulting in my right foot being crushed between the motorcycle and her car. As well as i suffered 3 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, losing the hearing in my right ear and 38 stitches in my arm. Reconstruction of my foot was performed, basically my entire foot was rebuilt using bone grafts, pins, rods plates and screws. The bones healed great, unfortunately the nerves and soft tissue did not. Sympathetic nerve blocks were done in an attempt to “reboo” my foot. The procedure was unsuccessful. I had a meeting with a surgeon today and between the two of us we decided that a BKA was the best route to get me back to a semi normal quality of life. Being a very athletic person all my life, i truly feel this is what’s best for me. I was a college track athlete and was an aspiring triathlete before the accident occurred leaving me with a useless right limb. The procedure is set to be down within the month. The surgeon wants me to see a neurosurgeon to see about possibly doing a spinal chord stimulator before the amputation in an attempt to make the amputation as painfree as possible. I for one want to have the amputation first, and if the stimulator is necessary doing it post amputation. Just wanted to know if anyone had ever done this? Also wanted to get feedback on what to expect after the amputation. Thank you all for taking the time to read my story!
