Hello folks. I'm having the BTK amputation at the end of the month. In preparation for that I'd like to get a left-foot accelerator for my car. I can find them online, but don't see any reviews. Does anyone have an opinion on any of them? What's good? What's bad? Know anyplace that has a review of them? Thanks, Tricia
I hope your recovery is coming along well. The first months are the worst. I am a fairly recent RBK myself, 10/2012. I want to start by saying that I drive using my prosthetic leg and have no problems with it. I am able to feel the friction on my foot to determine when I am touching the gas and the brake is no problem at all. But, it's been over four months since getting my prosthesis. Slight pressure from my knee gives the car the gas it needs to get going as quickly as I want.
I would still absolutely suggest getting the left foot pedal adapter even if you only use it for a few months. You can get a portable one to move from car to car when you need to and it works great. I bought one and after only about five minutes of driving and parking in an empty parking lot I felt very confident.
You can get the one that bolts into your floorboard but you may have a problem finding a place that will install it.
