Amputees Support Group
Amputation is the removal of a body extremity by trauma or surgery. Many have undergone amputation or have been living with a missing limb since birth. In either case, life as an amputee can be challenging. This is the place to find others going through the same experiences as an amputee. Share your thoughts, troubles, and solutions with the community.
I've lost my left big toe due to an hiking accident almost 3 months ago. My knee and thigh were injured as well, but they will be healed. My loss of toe is the issue since it is a permanent. I know exactly how you feel since I feel the same way in regards to the way it looks. Fortunately, we can disguise it with socks and shoes. My main concern is performance, since I love hiking and running. I wonder if we would be able to walk normally, at least with the same speed as others. In regards to helping to stay positive in my case, I really found-out who are the genuine friends that will constantly support you and encourage you. Also, my wife has been an indispensable source of strength and help. Also, the fact that my wounds are healing day by day has given me hope. By the way, the accident happened in S. Korea and I was not able to fly back to the US due to treatments here, but fortunately I am flying back home next week. What an ordeal! God and prayers helped me the most as well. I would pray to God honestly, sometimes with resentment about what happened but always ending with a thankful heart for keeping me alive and the realization that it could have been worse. I am alive and enjoying the love of my wife and friends that stuck by my side. I also read the book "No surrender" by Patrick Bisher - this was a great book. Hope to stay in touch and pray for your healing.
