Zyprexa is an anti-psychotic meds...I'm a member of the bipolar site...Zyprexa should diminish his hallusinations..maybe it was just withdrawl from the med that it seemed he was better?

Deborah, your post would be so funny, if it were not so very sad. I think Ken is just beginning to have hallucinations. He says that they are just dreams, but I don't think so. This morning he told me there was 6 inches of water in our basement. He is also walking up to strangers and staring conversations with them. When I ask him what he is doing, he says that he has known them before. It gets quite embarrassing. When he starts kissing my purse, I will certainly let the rest of you know.

In the middle of the night, Jim said, in a very clear voice, "I don't know what in hell I'm gonna do with that big truck I just bought." Then, quieted down and went back to sleep.

He was on percocet at night for pain, but I took him off that and began giving him a sleeping pill. He didn't get a sleeping pill last night and slept just as well as he did with one. So, I will start seeing how well he sleeps without one but if he has too many restless nights, I will go back to the sleeping pill.

I'm the wrong person to talk about this, but here goes.....first of all, when I was in clinical depression, my PCP wanted to put me on Zyprexa (and I'm chemically sensitive and react to most drugs!). He made his own little stupid decision that I was bipolar. Now, I taught some biopolar kids and I KNOW very well what biopolar is, and it ain't me. If so, I have never reached a manic stage in my life! I refused to take it. And I left his practice right after....fearing for what the man could do to me. I did, of course, look up the med, which is an antipsychotic used to treat biopolarism, depression sometimes, schizophrenia, etc. I talked to another doc about it, who said the other doctor could have killed me with that due to my sensitivity....he was astonished. And then there's the behavioral therapy clinic that nailed my Dad with Serequel, Halidol, you name it, in large doses (he wasn't even aggressive)....and ended up sending him straight downhill in all kinds of ways....hallucinations, etc., being part of it.....he's now dead from all their medication cocktails. I say all this just to stand behind you....I'd first check to see if you need to wean him off or can go straight off. Then get him off. If that doesn't work out, you can always begin again. Serequel is one that is even advertised as not advisable for elderly dementia patients as it can cause early death. Good luck, keep us posted.

My husband has a PRN for Zyprexa for a behavioral episode ONLY and the pdoc said to give it only during the day and only if absolutely necessary.

I guess I should have posted that Rollie has been on Zyprexa for 10 years because he also has PTSD. So the Zyprxa was GREAT for a long time, I am thinking that perhaps it has lost it's effect on him. We see his doctor on Wednesday. He has been off now 3 days and the hallucinations are way done, he is still having a few but not to the degree he was. I think I will look it up on the web, sure hope his doctor doesn't get mad at me.........
