So Rollie talked to his mom this morning, for the first time in weeks. He asked to call because she sure as hell DOESN"T call him. I dialed the number for him and put the phone to his ear.
I can hear what she says to him a little because, of course, he sits right next to me while he is talking to her. He was asking her to come see him, he told her he wants everyone to get along, he wants for everyone to get together and just be nice. He said he didn't know what started everything but he didn't care, he just wants everyone to get along. She said that I am the one that started everything, that it was his wife's fault that she wouldn't come and see him and until I apologized she wouldn't come! I don't give a shit about that little alcoholic and what she wants, I just think it is very, very sad that he actually had more than a moment of clarity and insight this morning and she had to drag all the bullshit out. He has been pacing and upset ALL day since then, he is depressed, talking about dying, etc- because his mom can't get off her high horse and see her son.
This is just me venting some frustration and I know that I am doing the right thing, protecting him from a vicious person.

I think it is a shame...terrible shame - under these circumstances
his mother/sister/kids can't just do the right thing.
The right thing is visit and call on a regular basis. They need to keep the crap and booze and opinions at home and see their loved one.
Do they think they are hurting YOU by not visiting ? They are only hurting him and ultimately themselves.
I feel bad for Rollie.
