Hello everyone I have not been able to post in this group for awhile been really busy helping my mom take care of my 91 old grandma who has really bad Alzheimer's. we took her to the doctor on Friday. . found out that she has a urinary tract infection its really bad. the doctor gave her medicine. for it. . She woke up this morning and she could not hardly walk. She keeps taking. to herself She refused to eat breakfast. she told my mom that her blanket was her pants Shes really out of it. the Doctor told us to take her to the hospital were waiting on the ambulance to come and take her. because she can'rt walk.

Your grandmother's assets would be what would pay for NH care. If she does not have any or has only minimal assets, your mother can apply for Medicaid in your state to pay for her care. but you need to do this asap. The SW at the hospital should be able to assist you.....

Day 21-forward will be paid by Medicare at 80% and your grandma would be responsible for 20%. That can be paid out of pocket, with another coinsurance like Blue Cross or Medicaid. Medicaid has an asset limit of $2,000. It gets more detailed because while somethings are universal others will be dictated by her income/assets. Feel free to email for an even more detail response. The social worker at the hospital will take care of all of this. You and your mom should not be taking her home because this would not provide adequate safe care for grandma.

Your mom needs to apply for Medicaid for your grandmother, Now.
Maybe with the help of a Social Worker.
People with Alzheimer's do at some point need 24 hour supervision and care. It sounds like the rehab center is saying that after your grandmother's paid Medicare stay that other financial arrangements have to be made. That is why you mother needs to apply for Medicaid for your grandmother to pay for the needed care in a Nursing Home.
So, the next step is for your mother to apply for Medicaid.....
