Have you already bought some? If not I'd definately be getting them and then when you help him dress in the morning try putting a pair of them on instead of his normal briefs or whatever he wears.
So far Neal has only had brief spells of incontinence and I keep wondering how quickly that will change when it does change, and we all know it will? I'm kind of thinking I should buy some and just put them up for when I need them so I don't get caught in the middle of a blizzard or something with him pooping all over the house. Just thinking of handling the bedding then is giving me nightmares....need to stock up on more sheets and blankets too this fall.

I just got rid of all his regular undershorts and said " this is your new underwear". He never gave me one second of guff.. but he didn't have many words left then either.

I didn't know for a long time.. you can tear the Depends down the side seam for removal when there is a nasty mess you don't want to pull down their legs. I had been cutting them.

By all means start using them.

I got 2 boxes delivered from the Va so they are here and waiting. I am just wondering if I should encourage him to go ahead and go in his 'pants' he seems to still want to get up and go to the bathroom, the problem is that he thinks just about everything is a bathroom!

That's a tough call. It finally became easier for me when he just
started going in the Depends.
I guess you would hate to encourage any kind of decline.. but the
messes all over the house about put me over the edge. I don't know if it is something you can control anyway. Ron pretty much did what he wanted.. until he just didn't know anymore or have any control over it.

I just had a thought. what about one of those things that attaches to the penis and then has a tube to a little bag that goes down the leg? I wonder if he would use that? Georgia- what is that called? and could it be used for long term use or would it irritae the skin?

A catheter. No....... I don't think so. He'd pull it out, it can be irritating and if he plays with himself..... no.
Georgia can give you a more definitive answer though.

he is now using Depends almost exclusivel......ut with resistance. he really doesn't want to, keeps sneeking on regular underwear and then when he has leakage says that won't happen again (when i know it will, not his fault). Urologist put him on Vesicare, though I don't really see any difference. We are all making the pharmecutical companies rich , which is OK if this stuff worked but I really can't tell anymore. How much worse could it be I ask myself...yet afraid to stop any and maye find out it could be. We will hit the "Doughnut hole" in August!!! Just another joy......

Our Dr (s) prescribed several things for Ron's leakage.. I didn't think any of them made one bit of difference.

I use the pullups on Jim. He doesn't seem to mind them at all, even though I couldn't get him to stand and pull up his clothes yesterday and he peed on three pair of pants, 3 changes of depends and a towel. Finally gave up for awhile and let him go naked for awhile; closed the blinds and locked the doors and let him go. Took me 7 1/2 hours to get him dressed. Boy, was I stressed to the limit.

I put away all his underwear and put the Depends in the drawer. When I put the first pair on him, I told him it was a new kind of underwear and if he didn't like it, we would go back to his old underwear. He has never objected one time to wearing them.

Only bad thing (but would happen with regular underwear), he plays with himself and forgets to put his toy away (lol) and wets all over everything. I usually have to wash sheets every day now. At least he poops in them and not all over the house.

Are all Alzheimer's patients incontinent?

I think eventually , the signal is no longer sent to tell them to go. It has just been in the last few months that it has started with Rob and that is only sometimes. He is usually OK. It has only been with leakage more or less. But to be safe I have him wear depends.

I think eventually they all become incontinent to some degree.
Ron had trouble with leakage for years (prostate) and wore male pads before we moved on the Depends pull ups. Then came the
poop. And to think I used to freak out over a little pee.
