talk of dying

Does your loved talk about dying, a lot? Mine does at least once a day he says something like, "I don't have much time left." "We need to make sure everything is in order for you after I'm gone." "I won't be here much longer."

I always dismiss him and tell him, of course you're not, you are going to live a long time. I asked him why he thinks so and he says he doesn't know and he thinks he only has about a year.

No, my hubby does not do that but I have heard others when I was working in nursing do that and often they end up being right. It is like something inside of them senses the end is near. I know my MIL before she died of AD talked a lot about "walking on the dark side" and how she wasn't really here anymore but most of her was somewhere else.
None of us ever knows when our time will be up so I'd just try to enjoy him as much as you can while you still have him and he is still fairly able to communicate wiht you. Hugs

I was hoping you weren't going to say that, oh well, I guess we won't know until it happens. It's weird how you can say, well, it will be better for them but then when it is actually knocking on the door, you aren't ready. I guess no one is ever really ready.

Yes, my Mom talks about dying. She says it's almost time for her to go and the other day when I went to visit her at the NH, she said she thought she was going die the night before and she prayed for God to let her live until I could get there, she didn't want to die alone. Talk about a guilt trip!

My Dad talks about this, not every day, but when something comes up like a new pain or struggle. Seems to need to talk about if plans have been made and make sure everything will be alright for everyone. Sometimes talks about who he'll visit with first when he passes. Reminds me he'll be ok, don't be sad.

Others times I think it's a little fear, a little feeling that something is askew so death must be lurking. He's been doing this for several years on and off. But while he continues to decline, he's still around and kicking.
