I have been able to see some humor in this disease.. I've always been an optimistic person, I rather see the horizon then all the doom and gloom. And although every day I go through new worries and difficulties, I am able to laugh too.

For example, for the past month; my grandmother has been watching Dancing with the Stars reruns on television; and for the past four hours she keeps saying this is wonderful and she is so relieved that there is something new on televion. She doesn't remember any of the season, even though I have told her repeatedly that she has seen it... so I guess one good thing is she'll always have something new to watch on television.

And if she has the phone and remote control on the same table; she often tries to change the channel/put up the volume with the phone and talk into the remote. Sometimes she'll catch herself, but more often then not.. I have to say something or she will give up trying to raise the volume, so I guess that is good volume control.

Lastly, I love her color combinations when she picks out her clothes. Some days she's wearing every color of the rainbow; and every peice of jewlery she owns. Then she looks at me and says I have taste in my feet. So I am learning to pick my battles. As long as its not a hazard to her, or anyone else; why not let her go out looking like rainbow sherbert? So I guess if your new to this disease; I say to you... let the little things go; atleast if they're only in the early stages. It makes life with an Alzheimers person a little less tense. :)
