Doesn't your grandmother have insurance or medicare? Is this the first time she is getting this particular medication? Often doctor can give you samples to try. Or check the manufacturers website to see if they have a plan to help people who can't afford the medication.

Check on The Alzheimer's Reading Room, there is a lot of information, some on medications and prices there.....also I think if you check the tabs on this ALz site there was a previous discussion of ordering eds outside of the US, like from Canada......

In Ma. there is a College of Pharmacy and they will take info and if one 'qualifies' you can get free or highly reduced meds through them....I wonder if there is facility like this where you are...?

What kind of medical insurance does she have? Anything in addition to medicare (ie a gap plan, like Blue Cross?) Is your grandma on Medicare Part D? Is she in the "donut hole"?

We would spend the $5000.00 of our 'donut hole' by Feb or March of every year....one of the BIG issues with these catastrophic illnesses is the medical expenses......

My husband takes aricept and namenda, he has no insurance so we had to go thru a drug program and we get the namenda free cause he qualifys and the aricept we pay 25.00 for 90 day supply. Your drs. office can do this for ur grammy , you will have to call them and ask. where we live waynes primary care dr. office has someone who handles all that paper work. We sure couldn't afford it any other way. Wayne should get his medicare sometime next year and we will see what happens then. if i can help with any more info let me know.

She has medicare

Tabby here is a document from medicare that explains prescription drug coverage when you have medicare. From what I see on the internet that med sells for about $250 for the lowest dose. Not sure if the $200 you said it cost is her share of the cost or if she doesn't have a prescription plan. I have heard that the enrollment time is closing soon for medicare supplemental plans. So it might be a good time to review her coverage.

check with the pharmaceutical companies. sometimes they have assistance. if she qualifies she may be able to get the meds at no cost from them. they usually have a patient assistance program.
