Moms cardiologist took her off her BP meds because she hasnt had a decent BP to take them in over a year.

Is that why they stopped your husbands? If any doc says to stop her zoloft or depakote...I think I will be the one running for the hills. LOL

No, we are taking him off because we are taking him any life sustaining medical procedures/meds. We are keeping him on Atavin and Zyprexa. At this time it is only about his comfort.

Palliative care decisions are so difficult. Everything we have been doing is to take care of as best we can, to make sure they eat, they don't fall, they have a good quality of "life". And now after years of that we are not talking about life extending but comfort care now. How do we deal with this? To wish we weren't here at this point. It takes a shift in gears, in thinking that is so hard. Try not to think of it as a turning point you can't turn back on....that happened a long time ago when this disease first started.... just know you are still caring for him and helping him. One day at a time. Don't over think it. I feel the same....nothing is easy. Hope each day is easier.

I guess that's what it is, all of our lives as women, especially, we are trained and focused on taking care of people so they get better but with this disease there is no better so it makes it much harder, like we have have to give up, abandoned them. But it is the right thing to do, be gentle with them and make them comfortable.

Sorry if I seemed uncaring earlier Deborah, I feel badly for you having to make that decision I know it must be hard for you. I know "we" have to do it at some point. In a way I guess that is why the dr stopped moms BP meds as well, no use, no need.

I have requested pain meds for mom but to no avail from her PCP. Guess she figures she still has other things to deal with and keeping her "comfortable" isnt what she wants to do now. But if she hears her go on and on about how she feels and everything hurting you would think she would be compassionate for mom but doesnt seem to be the case at the moment.

Again, I appologize if I seemed unsympathetic, my own brain works in one direction sometimes with the MS, and that direction was off base. Forgive me

With the help of our doctor, I have made the same decision. Ken is not on anything any more. I do notice that he does take a lot of Ibuprofen at times. He thinks he is in pain. I know that Ibuprofen is not good for him but he thinks he needs it. What do you all think? Should I take that away as well?

I think I would give it to him but maybe give him the lowest dosage, because he may get stomachs and stuff if he takes too much, maybe even a placebo?

Dibbie isn't Ken on any medications from the different studies you have had him in? I would love to take Tom off of his medications especially since he will be getting his pain pump on Monday. That will get him off of possibly three but at least two medications. That would leave him with 3 different blood pressure medications and I am afraid if I took him off of those he would have a massive stroke making it even more difficult for me to take care of him.

Deborah, I just can't wait to really talk to you and to pick each others brain. (That is, if either of us actually have much of a brain left)
