I am concerned for her welfare as she needs medical assessment and possibly placement in a care facility. It appears that her care
is becoming impossible to do at home.
Encourage your parents to get her to the Dr. and consider a care facility. It is often the best choice.
Your story is very sad and misortunate. It does appear that your gramma may need more help than you and your family are prepared to give her. She cannot keep falling like this. As Judy said hard as it is to understand sometimes, She cannot help that she doesn't follow instructions you give her, she cannot understand them and does not remember them. Actually it sounds like she is trying to be more independent than she is able to be , and may be doing so to try not to be a burden.
Please check in to a facility, it may be best for all concerned. This disease is very difficult for all involved but the one inflicted does not mean to do the things they do even though sometimes it is difficult to understand.
In the Alzheimer's world they cannot change so we , the caregivers must adapt to their world. Also you will save all of you the trouble if you use Depends when Gramma goes to bed. You won't have the mess to clean up and she won't fall.
Good luck ...its not easy ...but PLEASE check in to a facility. You may be surprised and it may be fully covered by medicaid!
I don't intend for this to be mean, but it appears as though you and your family do not fully understand this disease. Like everyone has said, it is NOT that she won't listen to you.....she CAN'T comprehend what you are saying. Repeating yourself does not make it better.
It is very likely that it is a UTI that is causing this, but SOMETHING is wrong and she needs to be seen by the DR.
I agree that it is time for placement where she can be cared for properly. There comes a time when it cannot be done at home.
Please get her to the ER or DR. asap.
