My MIL, SIl and BIL are visiting, they come with their RV and cook their meals, sleep in their own beds so the impact on me is minimal, but I did notice that my husband is in better spirits, tries talking more and even laughs.

So for all you family members who are avoiding a person with ALZ in your life, know that your visit can really make a difference in their day and get over your own self pity and support your loved one. It may not seem like they have much a reaction but we caregivers can see changes that aren't obvious to you. So please spend time with your loved ones.

What a great way to have company ! And, great advice for
family/friends who are absent.

I know it is hard to know what to say or do, but a call or short
visit wouldn't kill any one.

From your lips to gods ear, I do wish friends and family would visit, but most dont' even the ones who are near enough to do so...it is like they are uncomfortable and don't know how to react or what to talk about.
They don't get that it doesn't matter, Neal won't remember what they say but he likes hearing people talk, I think it helps him know he's not alone.

I agree, Ken's oldesr daugher is coming for Thanksgiving. When I told Ken is was excited but thinks she is his sister. Who cares as long as it makes him happy.He has been asking me when is she going to be here. This daughter also sent him a birthday card that records her voice and I play it for him a couple times a week and he will get a big smile and say her name. His younger daughter hasn't seen him sunce his family reunion in June and she lives 20 min. from us.When we were at the reunion she picked up and bag and ask whos it was I said mine she responed no it has diapers in it. She will be over for Thanksgiving but it will be a crying day. My family will be here , they are around him all the time and treat him as if he is okay. that will make her even more cranky. Maybe she will she the light someday. It is a lttle late, he most likley will not know who she is. That is so sad. I used get angry at her because she doesn't come see him. Now I feel sorry for her and I know some day it will make her very sad that she missed out being part of his life in the end.

My hubby Jim loves company, He has two brothers in the neighborhood, who look straight ahead when they pass by our house. A brother-in-law does the same thing.,

One brother will come and sit with him for an hour or so if I need to go to the grocery store, but seems very anxious to leave as soon as I return, which makes me think he doesn't want to be here at all.

Granddaughter and her boyfriend came on Halloween and he really enjoyed their company even though he doesn't know who they are.

Most people seem to think Alzheimer's is contagious and do not want to be near someone with Alzheimer's

One son is a god-send. Don't know what we would do without him, but the other one seems to want to be far removed from it all.
