I'm thinking it must be doubly hard when they can express their depression, bad feelings.

Ron can't express anything to me... not even pain. So, in some ways I am kind of in LaLa land and spared that sadness.

I know this is hard...

So sorry, so difficult. My dad used to say "you stuck me in cold storage...I don't want to live like this." after he had to be put into a nursing home. He had AD and a lot of health problems and needed constant nuring care. Every time he said that, at every visit, I would start crying.

I'm like Jamr41 with my mom now and her AD, she isn't aware and is happy.

So sorry to hear that, I know when Neal had that period of time where he was so depressed and wanting to die it was really hard and so sad...it was such a relief when he got on meds that at least stopped that part of the depression

It's so sad when they say that. When mom was living with us and more aware of her pain and limitations, she'd say that she wanted to die and why didn't God take her. I used to tell her God wasn't ready for her yet. That was 3-4 years ago. We had to put her in to a nursing home hear us due to physical ailments. She didn't say that one time while she was there. Strange. At that point I don't really think she knew where she was, but knew she was safe because she saw me twice a day. She passed away quickly Jan 2nd. A blessing for her, but I miss her deeply.

Hmmm! how sad, my Mom started to say she wanted to die these last few months and now she stopped eating. I'm wondering if she is trying to put her words in action. The nurses in her NH said that they mentally can't figure out how to commit suicide so that is not what is happening with her, but sometimes I wonder. Who knows what it is they can and cannot comprehend.

IT IS VERY COMMON WHEN THE END IS NEAR FOR THEM TO STOP EATING, FOR MANY OF US IT IS ONE OF THE FIRST MORE RELIABLE SIGNS THAT THE END REALLY IS GETTING NEAR.
AND NO, IT IS NOT SOMETHING SHE IS DOING ON PURPOSE, EVEN IF SHE COULD FORMULATE THAT IN HER MIND SHE COULD NOT CARRY IT OUT, IT IS JUST THE CONTINUING DISTRUCTION OF HER BRAIN CELLS. I'M SO SORRY

This is really hard to see. I hope support from us and other loved ones can help alittle. Our older daughter's unemployment ran out and the stress for her is terrible. We want her to move in with us but she would have to stay in our granddaughter's room and she is very depressed and says things like that.

Near the end of my mom's life, she just didn't have an appetite.. only enjoyed canned fruit and sweet drinks. She said she just wasn't hungry and wasn't going to eat if she wasn't hungry. When we encouraged her to eat a few bites of this or that.. she might - then complain it gagged her.

I think the body and brain knows what it is doing.

Oaktree, I feel for your daughter, I am glad that you are willing to help her out. It's togh being in that spot.

I just talked with her and she is doing ok. It is hard for her to ask for help. It is hard for most to ask for help, and that probably is what your husband is feeling. I am glad that he has anxiety medicine: it should help his nerve endings work a little more little normal.

How is your husband doing today?

Today he is good, my son took him out for a couple of hours and he is in better spirits.
