I think so. Ron spent most of his last 6-8- months lying on the couch with his head covered with a blanket. He dozed and slept most of the day. He would only sit to eat a few bites and often as not .. would not eat at all.
I think any noted change in behavior is another step down.

sounds that way to me too, but only from what i have read. i have not yet experienced that with my mom

My dad started doing this several months ago...maybe longer. My parents who were always up by 7AM have started staying in bed until 9 or 10. And when dad is in one of his spells (probably recovering from a TIA) he will stay in bed until noon.

I put Rollie to bed around 8 or 9 and he pretty much sleeps through the night, gets up once or twice to pee and then will stay in bed until around noon.

Not like that here.........Rob goes to bed around 10 and up around 6 or 7 ...doesn't nap at all during the day . It seems he is always up. The dr did say that with Lewy bodies they don't sleep as much GRRR

I also think it is a sign of decline. When we moved here in April of 09. We would have breakfast and watch the Good morning america show at 8 am.

In the weeks before he broke his hip, it would be9:30 or 10 before he was ready for breakfast. He also ate less and less. He used to always enjoy going for coffee and for months at the end wouldn't even finish a half cup in the morning. Hard to watch the decline right before your eyes.

Hi, yes the same with my mom. She would be awake early and stay up most of the night, but now she is napping during the day and sleeping most of the time to 11 am.
It is so hard to watch them go, so slowly. I hate going to the home, because I see her so sad all the time! She never smiles anymore. I hate to go and I also hate to leave her at night, because I don't know if I will see her again the next day!
SO, SO HARD!

Deborah, Ken is doing the same. He goes to bed between 8:00 and 9:00, and gets up around 7:00. I can usually get him to eat a couple of pieces of toast and a glass of milk, but then he spends much of the rest of the day laying on the bed. He rarely watches TV anymore. He is extremely delusional. He usually does not eat any other meal, maybe an ice cream sandwich or something like that, but that is all.
I can get him to drink an occasional lemonade, but he hardly ever drinks water. He is extremely thin right now. He has to have help with everything now, however, he can still go to the bathroom on his own.

From what I understand this is a natural progression of the disease. It is almost like getting your days and nights mixed up, a couple of our residents do this. I wish that I could give you tips on how to turn it back around but you would be fighting the disease. Best wishes and I will be looking for any tips that are offered to you!

dibbie; Sounds like Ken has really changed alot in the last few months...I am so sorry. This disease sucks!!! Sorry ..there is no other way to put it. Have you called Hospice for a reassessment?
