Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
You do not need a new answer there is already at least one here - all ya gotta do is pick it up. Those of us who have recovered are here to try to give you some hope. The inspiration for you can be the many years of sobriety shared amongst people on this board - that should encourage you to understand that permanent sobriety can be guaranteed if you do what we have done.
You cannot see the wood for the trees at the moment. You said 'It is there to be had if we can find it' - so what else are you looking for?? The solution is posted here so often you cannot miss it! So, I'm thinking maybe you don't want to get sober that way?
That's cool but I and many others can only share our experience of recovery with you, we tell you what we have done, but if that's not what you want, then I haven't got anything else to offer you because there was no other way I could find that allowed me to stay sober.
Sometimes, the most loving thing is not always the most comfortable thing, it's not always what we want to hear, it's not what we want to do - but those who have love in their hearts will tell you the truth because to do anything else would be wrong.
You say that we shouldn't assume we know the struggle of anyone else, but alcoholism is the same all the world over, so alcoholics understand the struggle involved in letting go of alcohol but if you are struggling with other stuff then maybe others who are struggling with whatever it is can be of help to you.
It's like going to the dentist with a pain in your leg, he's not gonna be able to help you but if you go see a doctor, then he will.
Read again what you wrote:
"Help us FIND the inspiration, the reason, the epiphany. It is there to be had if we can find it.
"And fuck everything you think you know. Seek it, a new answer for us. "
Well, what exactly IS it you want us to say? You're asking us to speak up and shut up at the same time. What makes this even more perplexing for us is that we haven't yet figured out how to enjoy the benefits of sobriety while still drinking.
Now just to add a little insult to the injury I've just inflicted, let me add that we DON'T forget. We've all been where you are, first demanding that we serve you an epiphany on a platter, and ten seconds later telling us to fuck everything we think we know.
But we're not laughing AT you, we're laughing WITH you. So the good news is that we mean you no harm whatsoever. The bad news is that we know the game you're playing inside out, and we've gotcha cornered.
That aint gonna happen. You want what we have? You have to do what we do...which requires hard work & lots of soul searching...LOTS and double that amount in honesty.
I'm sure Rummy is flattered that you seem to have leached onto him but if what I read is true, he's not drinking this weekend, he's not waiting until Monday. By you saying Monday, you've given yourself permission to stay trashed all weekend.
Monday, there'll be a new excuse as to why you have to stay trashed Monday and so on....
You want what we have, do what we do....
Oh, and English is much, much easier to understand when you're not drunk and taking pills....give your brain some time to let the fog clear & things will start making more sense.
I know you don't get "hangovers" and that is part of your problem because physically you always feel fine, but it's probably because you just stay drunk so I mean this in the nicest way possible, I hope you feel like ass when you wake up!
And I love you.....and I'll be here when you're ready as many of us will....
