Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

It takes time for the body to adjust to not having alcohol in the system and there may be unpleasant symptoms for a few days. Sugar is one of the by-products of the breakdown of alcohol so when you stop drinking you may have sugar deficiency. Eating candy or something sweet helps as a short term solution.
As you say it will pass but it is wise to have an honest talk with the doctor as there can be serious complications from alcohol withdrawal. Personally, I drank very heavily and had very few physical problems after stopping but everyone is different and it is not wise to compare yourself with other people where your health is concerned. Put your mind at ease by talking to the doctor.
Your body needs to adjust and to heal. Some people end up with insomnia, I was like you and was exhausted. I also felt light headed and had "brain fog." Increase in anxiety is also common in the first days and weeks but should go away.
Sugar can have the same toxic effect on your liver as alcohol. So while having some sugar will help reduce cravings, you do not want to overdo it. Fruit and fruit juices are good. So is lots of water.
Keep pushing forward!
