Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I think once we get sober the cravings nearly disappear for most of us. (Or when we have a spiritual experience that is a defining moment in our desire to quit drinking.)
You are not alone! You are in the right place!!
I, for one, could not get sober alone, either. I needed AA to teach me and help me find the willingness to let God give me sobriety.
For me, it ceased to be a daily struggle -- sobriety has become a daily gift I am grateful to receive from God. :)
Going to AA has made my problem more 'real' or 'out there' and has really confronted me with the fact I need to change my behaviour. It also has given me a focus - reading the literature, about the steps, talking to other people about my problem (unbelievable for me!) etc. I am prepared to stay sober and get through the program before I even think about where I am at with my drinking and whether I can drink again unproblematically.
I'm interested in why AA works for some people so I trying to keep an open mind and not just baulk at some of the lingo. At the end of the day - for now - it is keeping me sober and I'm really happy about that :-)
