Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
When I was about 14 I became deeply depressed, I turned to drugs and alcohol. Every day I would smoke constantly (with occasional other substance use) and every night I would drink until I passed out. This continued until I was about 16. I would still smoke but I stopped drinking. I am now 21, my depression is 100x better now, (most days i would say im not depressed) I recently decided to make a change and stop smoking, however, I now find myself drinking constantly... all day while I'm at work all i can think about is how I wish I wasn't sober and then I go home and drink. I know it isn't healthy and I want to stop but I can't. I can't seem to find what triggers my mind to think i need to not be sober. Any help would be appreciated

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Alcoholism is a symptom of deeper emotional issues. It's quite common for someone to quit one addiction and pick up another. That is because there is something inside you in need of healing. It could be a past trauma or unresolved guilt which you are holding onto. You don't want to deal with it or you don't want to feel the pain so you numb it with alcohol and this could be a totally subconscious reaction, which you are unaware of.
I remember I went through outpatient treatment and I was treated for my past traumas and what wasn't healed through counseling was healed through the 12 steps of AA which I highly recommend.
I tried to quit on my own hundreds of times but eventually I knew I needed help ....I went through outpatient treatment followed by AA meetings where I got a sponsor who guided me through the 12 steps. That was 12 years ago. Today I have a great life and I have never been happier.
The fact that you are here is a clue that your inner mind is asking for help.. Best place to start is to talk to your doctor who will evaluate you by asking a few questions and then recommend some treatment options, but in the end, it's totally your decision on how you want to handle your drinking problem... There are lots of people willing to help you stay sober but you can't be afraid to ask.
The path you take on your road to recovery may help someone else so keep us posted.
God Bless
So after work why don’t you just check out an aa meting ? I found relief in there 8 years ago. Life is better and I don’t obsess about that Depressing Drug
1-2
Usually what happened was me getting drunk and something getting destroyed or someone either being terrified or in a fight with me or extremely angry at me.
That obsession was constant, and it got in the way of my concentration, and my functioning at work. I see now that it was a delusion, and the real problem was I was an alcoholic, obsessing about alcohol, which I have come to believe is abnormal for the human psyche.
I had to go to AA, and it saved me, and I can't afford to be shy about that. I had to gain an attitude of not caring if people know or if people don't understand either. It's is a very clear fact in my life, that when AA is a part of it, and I am going to meetings, reading the literature, talking to other alcoholics, working with new members, something happens to me on the inside that makes life not only tolerable, but wonderful at the same time.
I think if you got to AA directly after work, after some time, you'll see that you no longer obsess over alcohol at work, and your life will be much more enjoyable.
