Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Today is the day to change my life for good!!! I am married to an alcoholic, I am an Adult Child of Alcoholics, and very co-dependent. I don't drink much. When I do, I usually drink one to two beers and that is it. Not sure if I have alcoholic issues as well.
Just not sure where to start. I have finally come to the conclusion that change is the answer. I need to get involved in a 12 step program.
Thanks.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

That is where I will start.
Thanks so much for the feedback.
Do I post on this support group?

I am an acoa myself. Having alcoholic parents affected every major decision I made in my life, in a negative way. I am still working on myself.
Good Luck!

Thanks so much for the support and info. I found an ALanon meeting in the area on Monday night. Plan on attending. From what I have read on the internet, ALanon is certainly the place to go. Will keep you posted.

I found ACA to be tremendously helpful. If you also go to al Anon meetings - please find a coed one - they are usually at night. I found those al Anon meetings to be much more helpful than the meetings during the day, which are usually attended by women only.
I have nothing against women's meetings but somehow the coed meetings seemed to deal with issues more realistic.
It is natural to be unsure and afraid of taking such a step and that is probably what is holding you back. Just remember that where active alcoholism is concerned it will get worse over time, never better. What may look like a difficult choice right now will probably prove to be the easy option in the long term.
Did an online Alanon meeting last night. Not sure I understood what was going on. I definitely need to go to a f2f meeting. Reading has really helped. Knowledge is priceless!!!
Yes - knowledge is useful. I found something else is useful too, an impact and real change within the heart. Face to face contact with those in the know really has been priceless for me on that front.
Good luck

Thanks again. Have a great day.

The steps are identical as those of AA. I believe what changed your mind was the same thing that hindered many of us from going through the doors. Fear of something very new and strange. Fear of exposing ourselves to strangers. Fear of playing the fool.
Conquering that initial fear will be your first step in a life you will be amazed at...
Hugs,
Dennis
