Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Hope that makes sense.
In the end, I had to come to the conclusion that normal people don't drink this way. I also had to think about what it was doing for me......it used to relax me and I didn't feel too bad the next day. With each passing year, I found that my anxiety actually increased with the alcohol.
There are better ways to relax then getting drunk,- trust me on that one. Glad that you're back here!
Why do we do it? For a variety of reasons at first, but once you cross the line you no longer need a reason.
I can't sit and do nothing, can hardly sit and watch TV.. I am always up on my feet and my mind is always racing..
But you're here for a reason.....you must want something to change or you wouldn't be here.
I am broken inside too.... have papers to prove it too. LOL
I don't make it worse by using anymore drugs or drink (ex-junkie here too)
Work on the broken part....seek help . I am 1yr off booze and about 16yrs off drugs.
Peace
Here are some of the methods we have tried: Drinking beer only, limiting the number of drinks, never drinking alone, never drinking in the morning, drinking only at home, never having it in the house, never drinking during business hours, drinking only at parties, switching from scotch to brandy, drinking only natural wines, agreeing to resign if ever drunk on the job, taking a trip, not taking a trip, swearing off forever (with and without a solemn oath), taking more physical exercise, reading inspirational books, going to health farms and sanitariums, accepting voluntary commitment to asylums-we could increase the list ad infinitum.
We do not like to pronounce any individual as alcoholic, but you can quickly diagnose yourself, Step over to the nearest barroom and try some controlled drinking. Try to drink and stop abruptly. Try it
i don't know.. i wish i never got the desire to drink at all..
i think if i am an alcoholic.. i am a little one..
i dont do bars, dont fite, dont do anything crazy except over indulge.. the need to drink doesn't make me get up and go to the store and get a case.. my hubby drinks beer too and he brings it home so i drink it. and he don't drink all the time either.. 2 or 3 some evenings while he's working with his plants or something.. we don't "party" we just drink beer.
I couldn't just sit with me either, it's what "we" call "restless, irritable & discontent". I think most folks I know are capable of just "being" whereas I was not.
Can you do yardwork on a sunny day without drinking or obsessing over drinking if you're not? Have you tried?
I don't know anyone who questions if they need to change or if they're alcohol intake is a problem....unless it is a problem. My "normal drinking" friends haven't ever felt a need to join an online support group for alcoholism......
I think you did something good by coming here. Read & learn, you might just find yourself in someone else. :)
Welcome or welcome back! :)
