I agree with todayisagift. If you want it any program will work. I don't know much about the programs that you listed but I did 28days at high watch farm in ct and it saved my life.So to answer your question"yes they do". Best wishes . Jeff

hey I spoke once some 15 years ago at High Watch. I knew a councelor there. Name of Dick from Cheshire. Over 30 years of sobriety. Great guy. Back to treatment centers. I went through a treatment center while stationed in Yokosuka, Japan while in the Navy in 1976. I learned a lot about this disease and AA and everything. Wasn't ready. The treatment center didn't fail, I slipped. Help is there if you want it. All you got to do is ask.

I think it depends on where your head is and if you really want to stop drinking. If it's a good treatment center, even someone who's resistant to getting sober can at least get a good education and then the seed is planted. Just watch out for the treatment centers where most clients are only there because they're court mandated and they don't really want help. I didn't find sitting around comparing war stories any help.

i was sent to one (cour order) wen ther from jail kicking and screaming the whole way, about two weeks into the subjet of powerlessness came up, ha i was only looking at myself, they pointed out, very rudly i must add, that the ones around me were powerless over my drinking also, like my 7 year old daughter. i was so pissed at that moment that i wanted to leave but i couldnt. Then it hit me, i broke down in a million little pieces and cryed like i have never cryed before, thats saying alot for a woman. took me about 2 weeks into the program before i got it, but when i did, it was very powerful. Yes, i believe they work, IF you want it to. best $35,000 i ever spent. lol ididnt really have to pay that all at once, i got a grant from the state since they sent my drunk ass there. the rest of my life would have cost a hell of alot more. some places are cheaper or free too.

i went from all the cushy treatment centers to the county psych units on my progression down. i had insurance but could no longer use it because, well, they had a file on me almost 2 inches thick and had spent close to half a million dollars on trying to keep me alive. i was not ready; most of the time i disappeared to resale shops, grocery shops etc. because "i was so special." i was so special that this disease brought me suicide attempts, black-out drinking, drugs, loss of my only child. loss of family and friends, finally home, car, everything material, and finally it almost took my life- through hepatitis due to rape, to alcohol and drug overdoses. i was powerless and i knew a loneliness few people know. i never dreamed as a child i would end up this way but i did. take your program seriously. i find it difficult to believe the grave diggers can keep us with us-those of us that would not see ourselves as dying of the disease of alcoholism and addiction. i am not my disease, surely, but it ran the show thus taking way almost every dream i had ever had. be smart, my friend. life is a gift and the presence is a present from God. do your best and find yourself, not unique, just one of us who love you in your suffering more than you know.devonh

28 day treatment programs work, If you let it work. If you go to treatment with your plan in hand it's probably not going to work in 280 days. Before you invest the time and the money, ask yourself,I'm I going to trust that they know what they are doing and do exactly what is sugested of me? If you can turn your will over 100% you at least have a chance.
