Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I would say go to AA..the next time you want a drink and you certainly SHOULD do that if you can bring yourself to do it. But, I know kids your age (my son is 29) and when I mention N/A or AA - I lose their attention.
So maybe the next time you want a drink...go to a gym...distract yourself...eat something (eating changes everything). cravings pass in 3-5 minutes. But when it comes down to it....you will stop if you really want to and need to stop. And you will find the best way to do it. The first suggestion is always attend a meeting...but if that isn't going to work for you right now...my suggestion is DISTRACTION...AVOIDANCE of the FIRST DRINK....pretend that you are allergic to it...
I'm sorry you are suffering from this horrible disease, which is progressive...I hope you find your way before you end up in more of a mess..Jails, Institutions and Death...is all alcohol has to offer ;(
Don't. You can stop now.
AA worked for me. You might want to give it a try. There is tons of practical help on dealing with life sober, and really enjoying it too.
If AA fits you try it. If not, do like I do and rely on the power within you to stop drinking.
I needed help and received that help from Alcoholics Anonymous so my weekends are pretty good now and it gets better each day, each year. I realised the drinking was a symptom of something much deeper and was guided through steps to address that.
I would suggest that if you have sober friends take inspiration from what they do with their weekends, try as many meetings as you wish where you will meet a lot of people who know where you are coming from. It's a much better option than sitting in a home surrounded by booze if your family members are still drinking. It's free, anonymous and a lot are sociable too.
Keep talking to us here and there is the option of online meetings too. Have a look at aa.org if you are in the USA.
If you are physically dependant on alcohol please ensure you detox safely, either under a doctor's care or through a detox centre.
