Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Two things moved me forward into real recovery - the first was a deep realisation that the way I had been doing things was completely hopeless - the second the realisation that therefore if I wanted to live i would have to grasp what was being offered to me with everything I had.
I am really excited for your recovery. x
Wonderful post!
No more playing around with this, it is real as any deadly disease out there. I have prayed that you can reach that point of desperation in which you feel your only choice is to get it together olive. You there yet? Today you sound there.....
Great post-prayers to your friend. xo
I asked a lady to be my sponsor. She guided me through the steps. I was confused often (especially with the God thing), stubborn much of the time because of my self will. Went to meetings every day and found a home group. While working the steps, I chaired meetings, made coffee, vacuumed the floors, emptied ashtrays and last but certainly not least, cleaned the commodes. Then given key as secretary of meetings. Eventually on steering commitee.
In between that, I was picking up other ladies and giving them rides to the meetings and talking with them. My sponsor had me at the door every night to greet newcomers as they came through the door.
Never left a meeting feeling worse than when I went in. Life humbled me because of some personal crisis that happened on the eve of my 1 anniversary. The emotional pain from that helped me reach a bottom sufficient enough to throw my self will out the door and ask a higher power for help. I received that help in the form of courage to continue through the steps with much more willingness than before. With a sincere effort, some time just prior to completing the 12 Steps, my compulsion to drink vanished! Haven't had to fight it since. I will always have my character defects to deal with. I'll have to settle for progress with those. God removed the ones he saw fit too. The others are what I continue to identify and work on.
In my experience there wasn't anything phenomenal that I had to do to have this miraculous spiritual awakening. It happened through the 12 Steps.
