Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
One example.
With my drinking came total insanity I vaguely remember coming home from work one afternoon I had been drinking all day, taking my 2year old son putting him between my legs and the steering wheel of my car and attempting to drive to the hotel/pub .
My wife arrived back at the house just as I was leaving and followed me she said in the 3 klm drive I was all over the road. Somehow I made it to the pub where my wife quickly took my son and left because I was in no condition to listen.
I came to about 2 am that morning slumped behind the steering wheel of the car wondering how I had got there I had blacked out and didn't remember 90percent of what had happened. But to cut a very long story full of shame ,guilt and remorse short I could have ended up in the quietest room with my son.I still cringe when I reflect back and thank God for looking out for us.
I am truly grateful ..

I would have been better served if I HAD gotten drinking driving conviciotns (Australia) but I had many run-ins with the Police when doing this but they always let me go - even after an accident. I was a pretty young thing, always well dressed and even coming out of a blackout, relatively well spoken, so I ssume they let me off because of those things - both male and female cops. But they should have booked me - a car is just as much a lethal weapon in the hand of a woman or man.
I say I am grateful I never killed anyone, but in truth, I can never really say I didn't, as how many intercestions did I go through where I could have caused an accident, but will now never know? I'm so glad I don't do that anymore.
When we got home, I put my Mother to bed, cleaned up my Sister, and went and detached the Stop sign from under the car and hid it under the house. I didn't know what else to do. Although Mum was a drunk, I loved her and wanted to protect her. I couldn't bring myself to go for my drivers license until I fell pregnant with my daughter at 32. I thank God none of us died. Although alcohol eventually took my Mother at 42. It's NOT going to claim me.
To this day I still wonder what did I hit that night. Did I hurt anybody?
Oh Wease, that's terrifying. I would do the classic, come-to in the morning and then terrified, sneak around and look at my car for dents. And then there's the "no car in the driveway" scenario where I had to try and retrace me steps to find my car - what a way to live!!
There was an interesting advertising campaign- if I can find it, I'll link it. It's a guy explaining to the doctor (who is working on his girlfriend) that he was only "buzzed"....not drunk. And did not mean to cause the accident. The doctor says "Oh, you were only buzzed? Okay, -then everything is okay". Of course the next sentence is the word "NO, you're girlfriend is STILL injured". Because buzzed driving is drunk driving.
Sorry to have to explain it, but you catch my drift. It's hard to contemplate all the times I've been a part of this and I'm thankful no one was hurt by my actions.

It's sad to lose a mum at such a young age. My mother also died young also as a direct result of her drinking she never drove but my father on the other hand I thank God he only ever had two cars and both for a shot time .
He was a daily drunk and I also have memories as a child of his driving. Just a couple I must have been 5-6 years old and one day we were coming back from my uncles were I had my hair cut and they had there plonk and beer
About half a mile from home going around a corner the back door of the car swung open with me hanging on to it he didn't stop until we were home I don't think he even remembered driving.
Also when I was around 9 my pop moved from Fairfield to Windang on the south coast and one night with the car packed with the family both parents drunk they decided to go visit
I remember driving down Bulli Pass and in them days taking just about every white post on the side of the road no guard rails back then. That's a long way over the side God must have been looking after us back then also.
And as a result of all my family, uncles and family friends being drunks I had my first driving charge at 14 also coming back from the coast my father and uncle where to drunk to drive so it was left up to me but I was pulled over just before Campbelltown.
I had to report to the local police station where the sargent in charge gave me a good talking to with a fret , where I would find his boot if I was to stand before him again. But I never learnt from that.
How blessed am I to be here today typing this and not pushing up daisies .
I'll have to start that book someday soon there are so many stories still stored in the half brain I have left.
God Bless...
