Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
At work, until the last couple of years I was a well-turned out woman, the suit, the hair the makeup, but underneath it and outside of work, I was a scuzzy bar fly with the morals of an alley cat and a hollow soul. Absolutely bereft.
I think the last year being so successful at work was my formidable forward momentum, which was in part me needed to have positive validation and deny my drinking and also because I am Bipolar so that was feeding in.
In the end of course it all went to Hell in a handbasket - thank Goodness and I did look at that woman in the glass and I was mortified at what I had become and the shell of a human being that I was. I am very fortunate that when that moment happened, also called a Moment of Clarity, I called Lifeline, they suggested AA and I was in AA the next day. I say fortunate because as alcoholics our powerful bullshit and delusional mechanisms can reclaim us and we're off and running again. And also, I know that there are many alcoholics who are suddenly faced with the man or woman in the glass, they don't get help and they lose the Good Fight and either drink themselves to death or suicide.
So it is a very confronting but constructive message.
