bill did not consider us to have the ism once we have done the steps and recovered. Once the obsession has been lifted we are still left with character defects that need to be spiriualy treated every time they appear. But hey even normal ppl have charcter defects and they dont call them isms. i wonder what Bill or bob would say about this?

once someone has had the spiritual awakening they no longer have alcoholism it is in remision. it stays that way acording to the BB as long as we seek gods will for us every day thru 10 11 and 12. this is confirmed by the BB and aa comes of age and dr bob and the good old timmers. If youd read those youd see that for your self even in the 12 and 12 bill says this.

For me I cant forget the past either - I heard all those phrases for the ISM and it is just that internal spiritual maladjustment that for me is so longing to fix-- it will not be fixed - that is why they have the 12 steps for us to work on and with others which in my case does help - as the alcoholic that i am the ISM is the most important in my journey of recovery- I,Self and ME- this is it. - just to become a better person in this world we so live on.

Some people say alcoholism is an ism not a wasim.

I say alcoholism was em that have not recovered.

I agree symphase living the 12 steps makes us better people to reach out and help others who are seeking the solution.

Yes you need to sponsor yourself but I hope you have found sponsorship from another person Ideally a sponsor who has a sponsor.

Yes stephen, am very grateful I have a sponsor with 25 years and his sponsor has 35, plus 2co-sponsors. Thank you for your concern.

This thread is bording on hilarious. I think what gim means is that if we try to do it alone, it is a lost cause. I don't think anyone of us do it alone. I am not currently going to AA but I am certainly not doing it alone. By the Grace of God do I go forward. I find AA irritating. Arrogant yackers that probably practice their speach for a whole frickin week cuz that is how long it seems for them to tell their pathetic stories. Gawd....tigger big time.

Whoohow, I glad you found this hilarious, but I received 8 messages saying they could totally relate. Why would you put something down that has helped so many like AA, just because its not for you. I sense a lot of anger. Hope you find a little peace.

Even though I go to 3 meeting a week, I can see that some of what woohoo is saying about AA is right.. I get really racked off with people bringing their personal issues to the meetings. For instance we have a 'couple' who are in 'recovery' but one keeps drinking and they keep splitting up. I am getting really fed up with ' my partner is great' 'my partner is pants' every bloody week!! I am getting to the point where I may drop that meeting, as I can't see the point of all the 'I've had a good/bad day' speeches.
The other meetings I go to , I get loads from, but certain people really irritate me in AA.
Also when u have been around for a little while - OK only 9 months - u here the same thing week in week out, and it can become tedious. Luckily I have a great sponsor, and vanother very good friend in AA who I can talk to about how I feel, and this helps loads.
I am not putting down AA as I couldn't have managed my 9 months without all the love and support. The steps are amazing, and helping me to learn how to be an adult human being. But sometimes it can get on my nerves.
as for the ISM - I self me. That's all I was. Now i am OBM - others before me!
